I’ve worked in transportation for over 15 years, majority of it on the carrier side in various roles, and this proposed regulation is one of the worst ideas I’ve seenor heard with littleor no logic behind it. The idea that more transparency will fix rate issues completely ignores how the free market works. In a free market, businesses should compete and negotiate without unnecessary government interference. Forcing transparency in private agreements adds more red tape and doesn’t help brokers or carriers. The people pushing for this rule seem to misunderstand how rates work in our industry. Rates change because of supply and demand—that’s just how the market functions. If someone doesn’t like the rates, they might be in the wrong business. After all, industries with similar barriers of entry, like janitorial services, don’t see calls for transparency mandates to regulate their pricing. What's next, having shippers/manufacturers disclose their costs so that an own-op can evaluate if they should have paid more for his services? This rule isn’t about solving real problems—it’s about complaints over how much brokers make. Instead of looking at ways to improve their own operations or adapt to the market, some are simply blaming brokers for their frustrations. But profit margins in a free market aren’t something to regulate—they’re something to compete for. This rule could also hurt the trust between brokers and carriers and discourage people from entering the industry. Instead of focusing on transparency rules, we should create a market where businesses can grow and compete fairly. I strongly urge to rethink this rule and consider its long-term impact on our industry.

In the past, when I called about job postings, even if they were detailed, I would still ask for more information just to be thorough. Sometimes it's a TMS posting, other times it's just a clerk that could be quickly adding a post with prepopulated details from one previous, or to ensure the agent has gone over them to prevent discrepancies later on. I know it's tedious, but I prefer to be safe than sorry 😞.
