Why Guitar?
Hi all. I’m always interested in other folks story and inspiration and motivation. So my question to everyone is why did you pick up a guitar? What inspired you to say - “I want to do this…” For me, though I’ve always loved music, what inspired me to try my hand at the six-string was binge watching the Beatles documentary ‘Get Back.’ Just watching the creative process of random chords being crafted into chord progressions and eventually phenomenal songs had me in awe. I remember thinking - ‘man, I wish I could do that.’ Then I thought, why not? While I’ll never have Fab-4 success, I can certainly get some personal enjoyment. Shortly after that I signed up for music lessons at a local music store, bought a mahogany 000-Bristol guitar, and started building calluses while trying to keep time. How about y’all?

Over the years I have had a reoccurring dream where I played the guitar. I briefly tried to teach myself how to play in 1981 and that was a non starter. On my 62nd birthday this year I decided to give it a solid try. I bought a $60 kids guitar and just kept fumbling away.

Sweet.
Favorite Book?
Do y’all have a book you would recommend? I recommend “the talent code” for all of my students, but I also read “to kill a mockingbird” every year around this time.

Yikes! I read quite a bit and I usually have several going at any one time. So, a single favorite is a chewy question. I am currently reading "History of Rock and Roll, Part One" by Ed Ward - and I am looking up the musicians on Youtube as I read. I recently finished "Your Future Self" by Hal Hershfield for a talk I gave at work this week about creating an AI chatbots of your future self. Current all time fave novel is "The Starless Sea" by Erin Morgenstern. I used to read it to my wife every night before she slept.

Hello Everyone! I'm Steven from North Carolina. I just started on my guitar journey at the end of August on my 62nd birthday. I have no previous music experience. I am learning how to read sheet music, form basic chords and learn how to keep time.

@Nelson Septos Welcome Nelson!
Offering up a guitar support
Hello fellow guitar wizards. I am offering up a free ergonomic support for a guitar. I found it to be a game changer with my first acoustic guitar, but it does not work with my new Martin. I am happy to ship it out no charge if anyone wants to give it a try (I am not selling it, I am giving it away). It helps hold the guitar at an angle without the use of a foot support. If your guitar has a matte finish, it may not adhere. Here is the Amazon link for more info: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0CQQX8FWR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
