Hey y'all, we covered a two chord banger: Paper Back Writer by the Beatles and a classic "Peaceful Easy Feeling" by the Eagles.

When to learn the fretboard
I’ve been wondering when is the right time to dedicate the brain cells to knowing all the notes on the fretboard. By ‘knowing’ I mean picking a fret on a string (ex: 8th fret on the G string) and knowing what that note is without having the go from open and count G, G#, A… etc until you get to the 8th fret. Is learning this skill a late beginner task, or something sooner or later than that? Thank you 😊

Great question-- and take this with a grain of salt, because I obviously have my bias. But I believe before you know every note on the guitar-- you should: - Know all of your 5th string root and 6th string root Power Chords (this will help you know all the notes on 5th and 6th string roots) - The next step would be 5th and 6th string barre chords - (this will help you with your chord tones) - Memorize the movable Major scale and Minor Scale for 5th and 6th string - Start learning what chord tones are and how chords are "spelled".. (for example G chord is a G note, a B note, and a D note) - Then I start with 4th string chords and their inversions... and tie the scales and the inversions together-- Here's what i think people miss with this -- notes need to have context--- they're all in relation and context to each other, so to just "remember the notes" is something that comes once you have a basic understanding of what I mentioned above. Hope this helps! Keep asking questions :)

@Rick Johnson I have a picture of a Movable major scale for 6th string--- I don't think about the note so much as the number. For example: G Major - G is 1, next is 2 (a), next is 3 (b)-- etc. Numbers will relate more to other scales and to the chords in the key-- which is a good place to start. Start with only 2 or 3 chords for chord tones. G major, C major and D major are a good place to start. and yes-- triads are similar to the 4 string chords. F major/Minor is one, D Major/Minor, and A Major/Minor is technically a 4 string-ish chord I use as well
Well presented.
Looking forward to advancing my abilities and playing with meetup groups and with Praise Team at our church. I am one of the singers now.
