InVision is Shutting Down
After selling their Freehand tool to Miro in November last year, InVision have just announced they'll be shutting down at the end of 2024. It's kind of crazy to see how quickly the rise and fall of a company like this can happen. They had a valuable of over $2billion just a few years ago, I remember when you basically couldn't move in the design world without seeing InVision everywhere. It's not surprising, Figma basically took all the utility away from InVision - and even Sketch has it's own prototyping too these days (but who still uses Sketch anyway?) Still, I think InVision played a big role in modernising design collaboration, so it's kind of a shame we won't see anything else from then again. If you wanna read a bit more, you can check out the announcement from the CEO

It was only a matter of time. At one point I came across a tweet from a Dev recruitment expert who claimed that an InVision developer informed him that they had laid off 50% of their 1600 employees due to Figma rapidly eating the market. This occurred in 2020 during the pandemic, when most companies were still hiring like crazy. You could also see on their website that Freehand had become the company's primary focus and their Podcast had become a standalone entity. They were already cutting expenses before the massive layoffs took place.

@Johan Holst I used to regularly read their Inside Design blog when they were heavily investing in publishing content. However, I noticed that they started promoting content on new features aggressively, without any real value. Similar to what you’ve described.
Rave Music, Business and Basketball
Hello everyone πŸ‘‹ Hi there, my name is Simon and I come from a Product Design background. I have worked on various tech products for both enterprise and startup clients over the past +10 years. However, the more I worked, the more I realised that people often overlook certain aspects of the tech business, which led me to explore Business models and Value Propositions. I tried to apply these concepts in a few client β€œworkshops” using canvases but I failed. I decided to figure out how to make it work as I had observed some positive "aha" moments from the workshops. After 5 years of trying, adapting, experimenting, and investing +50k in myself, I can say that I am glad that I was stubborn. Not only did I learn about business design and workshop facilitation (which both greatly helped with projects), but I also gained other micro skills such as fb ads, sales discovery calls, client onboarding, client relationships, copywriting and soon podcasting (anyone here who wants to share their story and experience working in tech?πŸ˜‰). I strive to improve both my business and personal life each day. I know it sounds like a cliche, but it's what motivates me. During my free time, I enjoy playing and mixing old vinyl records of 90s house and techno music. Although I'm a biiiig fan of NBA, I try to avoid it. I have a 3-year-old son who never seems to run out of batteries. I can already tell that he will be able to win over every girl's heart. πŸ˜… Nuff about me, let’s connect over LinkedIn: http://www.linkedin.com/in/simontratnik
