Recording of Kirtan @ Inner embassy end of aug
I wanted to share a (shortened) version of last months kirtan I lead. In order to keep it educative, I feel there is work for me to be done in some ways. Of course I am not expecting anyone to listen to it all but if you want you are welcome. - I am now relying on my pump a lot also to crwate dynamics and rythm, however some teachers told me not to use the pump for it as it is often more inaccurate and can put others off. I should then straighten the sound to be more monotonous. However i am just using it instinctively and grown a bit attached to it. - My rythm sometimes is off, not vocally i think but on the harmonium, probably because of the previous - You cant notice here but i should be more present towards my band, the drummer especially. - Perhaps the presentation and explanation to the audience can always be better - I have some inherent resistance to changing the first two points but i think in order to grow i need to work on the rythm aspect, or at least the communicative aspect of how i play to the rest of the band Any feedback is appreciated

@Nick W hi Nick! Lesson 5 of module 1 is about the bellows/pumping technique. He explains that how often you pump it also depends on the quality of the harmonium. My harmonium keeps the sound for a very long time, I don't pump it in any rhythm (not that I'm aware of at least). Good luck with letting the habit go if you want to let it go πŸ˜‰. Or just keep it, if that's what makes you happy πŸ™‚πŸ™.

@Nick W and thank you so much for the invite! Would have loved to join but I live in Noord Limburg so the Hague is too far for me unfortunately
Jaya Bhagavan
Hello dear harmonium students of the world! I want to improve my harmonium playing and singing. So I thought a good start would be to record a song that I like as a little goal from time to time and share it with this group of students. This song is Jaya Bhagavan from Krishan Das, whom I love and adore very much. He is a spiritual soul and has a gift to express bliss through his Kirtan singing and he really touches my heart. My plan is to attend one of his concerts when he comes to Europe next time. And yes, of course, I would like to learn playing and singing better and to be able to play in public one day!

Hi Ivan! Thanks for sharing! It sounds very beautiful! Your playing as well as your singing! I listened to Krishna Das a lot as well, I think he made singing kirtans very accessible for people in western countries. Didn't know this song yet but I really like it. Would you mind sharing the notes? At the moment I'm learning Mere Guru Dev, a song that I know because of Krishna Das.
Do you practice with a metronome…?
Hello dear musicians πŸ‘‹ πŸ™ŒπŸ½ I hope you are doing great. I have learnt the Adi mantra (the song Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo) in 2 days, from Kenny’s video. It’s very interesting… I’m going to buy a metronome ( can’t use from phone for this one) so that I can keep up with the practice without interruption. Rhythm is important especially if one think about playing with other musicians … ( must say I have skipped module 4 but will go back to where I was in the course previously!πŸ˜‰πŸ˜Š Module 3. 16 as needed) Has anyone bought a metronome or using it in any other ways (electronically and how) ?? Or do you just practice by ear?πŸ‘‚πŸŽΉπŸ˜Š Thanks for reading πŸ™πŸ™

Hi Christine, I never use a metronome, but I agree it would be better, especially if you want to play with other musicians. Now I just do it by ear. Playing this song in the same rhythm continuously is a lot more difficult I think, but a good challenge πŸ˜…. Would you feel like sharing some audio or video? Would love to hear other people playing this song so I can learn from others πŸ™‚. Well done 3 days in a row!
Sharing about my learning journey
Hi everyone! Hope you are all doing well. I felt like sharing something about my learning journey so here it comes: Last week I picked up my harmonium again after not having played for a very long time. I noticed that I really enjoy playing in the autumn and winter, but not so much during the summer. Somehow I always tend to practise for a while and then stop for a long period. I think it would really help if I searched for other people in my area to play music and sing together but I still havent found the courage to actively search for people. I just play by myself and don't even talk to others about it. I don't do anything 'spritual' like yoga or something so I'm not in those circles in my area. I live in a small town in the Netherlands so I think not many people have heard of the harmonium or of singing bahjans. So I'm too shy to post something on Facebook for example. Anyone else feel the same? I was a bit worried that I had forgotten a lot, but I was happy to learn that that was not the case. Having done the lessons about the foundations of the cords has really helped I guess. Here a short clip of me practising Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo. Feel free to share your version as well! It would be nice to see more people sharing on this platform to motivate each other :-).

@Christine Tej Sandeep Kaur I also skipped parts of the modules 3 and 4. Didn't practise the scales that much. I know it's good for the fingers but I prefer learning the songs. And didn't do any alankars and ragas. Now I'm at 40%.

Great you are enjoying your learning process! I like this about the course, that you can choose which parts to do and how intensively you want to do each part.
I'd like to interview you
Who wants to help us and at the same time help others too? To further improve our course we love to further investigate what we can do to help you all and also our future students. I'm very happy and grateful that 15 people of you filled in the feedback form I send a few weeks ago. (If you are reading this, some of you didn't fill in their name, please reply. Also, who was it that wrote he/she composed a song, I like to know. Please reply to this post.. ) So I want to have a short, personal interview with many of you. I'd like to learn more about your goals, difficulties, achievements, likes and dislikes of the course, tips and ideas. I would be super happy if you would help me by having this interview! Click this link to schedule a time and date for the interview: https://calendly.com/harmoniumevolution/personal-interview Hope to talk to you soon! Kenny
