IB Extended Essay
I want to pursue medicine and initially opted for writing my extended essay in biology. However, my teacher switched me to english since it's easier and I have fairly hard subjects. How important is it for my extended essay to be related to what I want to pursue? Does it matter during the college application process? Should I choose something that I'm interested in over something that easier to get an A in? Please let me know, I would love some advice!!

Biology x Sustainability Non-Profit
Hi guys! I wanted to collaborate on a non-profit organization that integrates biology with sustainability. I have a few potential ideas that range from areas like agriculture to areas like biology. I would love to discuss these ideas with those who are interested to founder + carry this forward!

Online Medicine Opportunities
Hey guys! I would really really really appreciate if all the aspiring-med students in this forum could give me a few online medicine-related extracurricular ideas. I'm in india and my search for research/ volunteering/ extracurricular opportunities has been quite limited. I would love to know of online oportunities/ oppportunities in India/ your experiences with extracurriculars in medicine so far. thanks a bunch!!

Choosing IB Courses
Hi everyone. In just a few weeks, I will have to decide on my IB courses for my junior year. Considering how tough IB is, I'm slightly worried about what I should do, especially as I try to decide whether to do 3 or 4 HLs. Right now I'm considering the following subjects as HLs: 1) Biology HL 2) Math AI HL (I want to do AA but it will be extremely stressful) 3) Economics HL 4) Between Chemistry and Computer Science Do any of you have any suggestions on whether I should do 3 or 4 HLs? Also, if you were to rank the subjects chosen above, how challenging and stress-inducing would they be?

hey!! i have almost the same subjects as you and i'm in the middle of my DP 1 year. let's start- biology hl is extremely in-depth. a lot of notemaking is required with a very extensive syllabus but it is doable if you break everything down and pay attention in class (very important). i was in math AI hl for the first month of my DP 1 year but then switched to math aa hl. this honestly just depends on your ability or preference. i was racking my head over this for idk how long and honestly, all my teachers have told me that they both are almost equally hard. math aa hl students can't do higher order math ai hl level questions and vice versa. go over the topics and see which one you're best at and don't be worried if you might have to try both of them. i have economics sl and its quite stressful. sl and hl are almost identical except hl has one extra chapter + numericals. the numericals are very easy especially if you're at math hl level and economics is quite doable with the right teacher. as for the other two, you will DEFINITELY need chemistry for biology- even if it's just chemistry sl. if you know the basics of chemistry and did well in it in MYP then you're fine. a lot of the biology topics have chemistry integrated in them and you just naturally understand them better. all my friends who have biology and don't have chemistry/ are poor in their understanding of chemistry are struggling. chemistry sl is very easy- its almost identical to myp. chemistry hl is very stressful for me right now. computer science is a good idea for biomedical engineering. i've heard cs sl is fairly easy and cs hl is quite hard but doable as well, though your hls seem quite alright. knowing of your goal/ major in university might be a bit more helpful in making a decision!!
Anyone else struggling to stay motivated?
Some days I’m all fired up, ready to crush my goals, and other days…... not so much. I’m starting to realize that motivation isn’t always going to show up so maybe it’s more about building a habit? Like, even on the worst days just doing something to keep the momentum going. What do you guys do when you’re totally unmotivated? Any tricks for pushing through, or do you just force it and hope for the best? Could definitely use some ideas to make this whole staying-on-track thing a bit easier!

yesss definitely. i feel like i have these random waves of motivation that slowly die out especially when i yield little to no results. ive started needing motivation for simple things too which wasnt the case earlier. over time, ive realized that with smart work comes smart breaks. whenever im unmotivated, i do something that temporarily breaks my flow but is ALSO good for me. i don't doomscroll- i'll take a shower, put my dishes downstairs, reply to emails- anything that is even remotely related to work but is easy to do. instead of stressing out about you being unmotivated, just do small errands that make you feel productive. another key idea is doing just something instead of nothing. sometimes i just randomly get up and start doing a task and force myself into it. the whole idea of discipline revolves around the fact that if i have to do something when im motivated- i have to do it when im tired, i have to do it when im stressed, ill have to do it when im alone but i have to do it. although this is a tad bit toxic, i find the tough part to be just starting. ive also learnt that hard tasks is for when youre motivated and easy tasks are for when youre unmotivated. its worked wonders for me. when im highly motivated i tackle tasks that ive been dreading because the motivation sort of compensates for it. all the easy tasks- replying to an email, noting something down, working on subjects/ projects that are comparatively easy, etc. i leave for when im unmotivated because my love for the task compensates for the demotivation. lastly, this entire motivation deal is just a mental trap. at the end of the day you just have to train your mind i guess. i love thinking about how today's work reduces tomorrow's work. if i extend one week's work to the next week oh god it sets me back like how. its also nice having things to look forward to as motivation. if i have festivals/ hanging out with friends/ other plans/ etc. ill want to finish my work so that i can have fun without thinking about my pending tasks. you'll be surprised what a night of fun can do to you (it makes life worth living again).
