Heya all my skater fam! Just a fast update for those that may be wondering. Had to have an emergency surgery which pretty much stopped me in my tracks. I have been reading all of your awesome skating posts. Keep being an amazing community. Ill be back on skates in about a month. I did get to skate in 2 airports on my trip tho....let me tell ya what, that airport tile is sooooooo amazing! A question for you all to think about: after a long recovery, what should I focus on when getting back on skates? I would imagine, go slow, and get my balance back? My right side will be weaker for sure, but never fear, im a tough bastard ! Here is to the best skate community out there. Keep it real and skate safe all.

I have some issues that mean I am more often than not, off my skates for weeks at a time, sometimes to the point even gentle warm ups can cripple me. When this happens, I work on strength training my legs and ankles, posture and balance, weight transfers, pivots, stops and transitions. I wish you a full and speedy recovery.
Arms
Anyone have any tips or tricks for what to do with your arms? I have a flailing problem. I'm hoping this will improve as my balance improves, but any advice on quieting them down a bit in the meantime?

I seem to switch between being too stiff or flailing about like a windsock in a storm 🀣🀣🀣
Style Roll Call
Hey skate fam just wanted to see how everyone is doing and what style of skating you enjoy, want to learn, or interested. So introduce yourself comment your style and maybe even recommend songs to go with that style.

My style is 'put my skates on and prance about to video tutorials until I don't fall on my ass and something sticks' 🀣🀣🀣

@Cameron Kelley I can't skate as often as I'd like, and to begin with I almost gave up because I wasn't progressing as fast as I thought I should be and the pain I'm in constantly got so muchworse, but then I had an accident at the skate park due my chronic illness, and it made me realise I was pushing myself too hard, so now, I just faff about with no particular movement mostly, sometimesI'll practice a specific move, but I've learned that my body will either allow it to happen or it won't and I move to something else.
40+
Anyone else wait until they were older to learn to skate? I've had so many people, including my kids, poke fun at me for starting now.

I'm 43 and started learning again this year after 30 years. I also learnt on inlines as a kid so quads are a whole new learning curve as well. Ignore them and just enjoy the skate journey. They're probably just jelly that they haven't got the stones to try it themselves.
How Do You Learn From The Courses?πŸ€”
I am curious how everyone approaches learning from the courses here. 1. Are you standing in your skates, staring at your phone, trying to follow a tutorial? 2. Do you watch it in your free time and try to remember later? 3. Would it be better for me to do my lessons vertically or horizontally? 4. Do you want the back angle so it's easier to follow? 5. What if I did a horizontal view with side-by-side front and back angles? 6. Do you prefer the voice over with zooms and freezes or the miced up teaching straight to camera style? I know this is quite a few questions πŸ˜‚ but help me help you! Answer whatever questions you feel the strongest about, or all of them if you feel like it. I'll be reading the comments and trying to improve my upcoming course content in this format.

Personally I need a follow along tutorial, something where I can watch and follow along to as if I was in a class.
