Research Opportunities
Hi guys, I would really appreciate if ppl who have done research could tell me specific programs or mentors on where they learned how to do it from, in order to get lab opportunities in the future. Where did you all learn how to do it, the proccess, who guided you? I would really appreciate if research ppl could comment down here telling me how to start by getting a mentor.

Can someone explain to me how to start science fair/research? Like how do I learn how to research and get a mentor? And then how do I apply for science fair to possibly get a chance to compete at places like ISEF? There’s no science fair in my school so where do I go? And where do I get a research mentor from? I’m so lost please help

@Syeda Zainab Fatima thank you for your reply. I’ve understood how to find science fair opportunities, but do you have any ways on how I can get a research mentor? I have no experience so far so I can’t reach out to professors. What were your first steps when it came to starting research and science fair?

@Ethan Reshad I'm looking for a mentor to teach me and guide me throughout research and possibly give me an opportunity in a lab, becuase as a freshman, so far I havent had any resarch experience which is why I haven't been getting opportunities in labs when I reached out to universities. I dont know where to start in order to get future research opportunities which is why I want a mentor, but idk where to get that either
Opportunity YOU don't wanna MISS....
I know, you want me to get straight to the point and I will....... after a few words. (btw im gonna be frank with this post) If you have been active in this community, recently you might have seen a hoard of clubs, nonprofits etc. starting up all over the place and MANY with MANY different topics. But When I FIRST JOINED Rishab's community, there was only 1 non-profit, a organization with one flimsy post for joining the non-profit. At the time, I was not confident of getting accepted but I applied anyways seeing they had a nice website (besides, what's the worst that could happen). And GUESS WHAT? I got accepted but then when I did there was a PROBLEM. There were like 8 members in a non-profit doing almost nothing in terms of initiatives or any action done. But, after many hours of effort by the founders and the Directors WE MANAGED TO MAKE IT THROUGH. NOW WE are PROUD to say that we are one the MOST distinguished NPO in SKOOL. We have MANY BLOGS and more up and coming. We have 2 initiatives under more than 32 members!!(Bio-in-med, Engineering workshop) and so much much more........... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ You see, here I am not trying to do a sales pitch, but trying to share opportunities, the opportunity to be a part of an organization that is made of up of like-minded individuals and a chance to PROVE YOUR POTENTIAL. I don't want you guys missing out, when I applied there were 8 people now as members are increasing so is competition. SO PLEASE DO NOT MISS OUT!!! afterall, whats bad in trying???

HOSA Event: Medical Innovation
I heard HOSA looks really good on college apps which is why I decided to join, along with my passion for medicine. I chose Medical Innovation, but now I’m regretting my choice. I feel like Medical Innovation doesn’t have much, can I change my event after submitting my form and paying my fees? Has anyone else done Medical Innovation in the past and have some advice or experience?

@Syeda Zainab Fatima thank you for your response, what activities look good on college apps then?
Why is everyone so obsessed with research?
Everywhere I look I see that the best way to get into colleges is "research, research, research." I'm curious, how important is it actually? Is it a must have or just one of those things people saw and then it caught on? As a side thing, I'm attaching the poll below to see how many people are actually doing it.

@Shivangi S how do you start research? I’ve chose a topic that I’m passionate about but don’t know what steps to take next. Do I need to find a research mentor, enroll in a research program? How do I do independent research, and publish it after? Do you have any advice on how to start.

@Shivangi S thank you for ur reply, but if I reach out to local universities or social, don’t I have to state experience, awards, or some type of background? I’ve read many templates and they all have something to say, will me just saying I’m passionate really help? How do people land research opportunities in the first place?
