Why is everyone so obsessed with research?
Everywhere I look I see that the best way to get into colleges is "research, research, research." I'm curious, how important is it actually? Is it a must have or just one of those things people saw and then it caught on? As a side thing, I'm attaching the poll below to see how many people are actually doing it.

@Pranav Nm Thanks for explaining it to me. I'm not so scientifically minded so I assumed that everyone was just doing it for college applications and I was confused why so many people were willing to put so much effort into that specific thing when there's other stuff to do too.
