Feedback - New Video "Freedom" - song and story
https://youtu.be/SWvMmKbLTOM ok from the feedback I got, I did a lot less editing and graphics and kept it simple. For the story part I added it into INSHOT for the AI editing to cut out too many spaces. I don't think it has an option in the capcut version I have. The original songs I am posting are left over from a few weeks ago when I recorded 9 of them so there are still things I need to remember for future videos. My areas that I think I can improve still. - Smile more - Audio - I know I can make this much better, I need a better set up currently its just my phone but when I add a little reverb it makes it a little lo fi or muffled I think. - I dont think Im not an ugly guy nor a model but I think the lighting and filters need some work. Im not sure where to go with this either. I would like to make it look natural and enough filter to not look like a scary guy in an alley lol Any thoughts are appreciated.

Great video once again Houston! I love ending the video with the reasoning behind why the song is important and what it means to you personally. I think incorporating some of those things that you talked about at the end into the video, to where you don't have to say them at the end but rather just show it in pictures/video would be the next step to take. You can get a lot of this by recording yourself doing whatever it is you want to be in the video or getting b roll from other people. The audio is still not all the way there but you already mentioned way you think you can improve that. I think in those terms you probably know more than me about that aspect. Other than that, keep practicing creating those thumbnails, I started with a similar style a long time ago, but the more you practice the more you'll see how much that image can make or break a video!

@Houston Bernard I would definitely recommend keeping it relative to the video. You might get a higher click through rate by posting it with a famous artist or youtuber in it but the retention will get killed after they click if it's not what they anticipated. If you look back through the history of youtube, they originally put in the retention metric to deal with this issue. A lot of the old creators (logan paul vlogs like the one below) would post videos with super clickbait thumbnails. You would click and watch something completely random for 10 mins and then finally a 1 min clip of what you actually clicked for (if that). Youtube saw that and realized people would just move to other sites if it kept happening so they added other features to help balance it out a little more. That's why even though you might have a super high CTR and retention the video might still not do so well.
Importance of testing Thumbnails
I posted a video about a week ago with the first thumbnail below. It ended up not doing well at all, I was worried that the video I had worked hours and hours on wasn’t interesting enough for any given viewer to click on. However, usually before I post videos I create 2-3 thumbnails to have and this definitely saved my video. The second thumbnail, although it still can be improved, increased the CTR by almost 5% and the views went from around 200 to 2.7k. I decided to share this because I think a lot of people, me included, get so wrapped up in creating this “masterpiece” of content with long hours of work just to see it flop. If you believe in a piece of content you posted, like truly believe you gave it everything you had, don’t give up on it after it doesn’t do well right away. Change the title, change the thumbnail, post a short and link the video to it and most importantly prepare for one thumbnail to not be received well early on in the process and make multiple thumbnails!

Importance of testing Thumbnails

@Houston Bernard I would just try to test out as many thumbnails as possible. If you do it for each video eventually you have so many you can look back on which ones performed the best and make all the videos have a similar style to that and just keep improving from there. Having at least 3 thumbnails for one video is definitely a good start, at the very least it’s good practice.

@Houston Bernard if you go into youtube studio, click on the details of the video, and hover over the top right corner of the thumbnail there should be an options button. Click that and then click the test and compare tab. Then you can put in 3 separate thumbnails and youtube will test them for you and give you the results with a bunch of different metrics attached. Super interesting new feature they recently added especially since I believe it was actually based on an AI software a youtuber created!
Thank you for accepting me in Grindstone
Hi everyone, I'm Xmandre! My wife Dimple and I are full-time content creators. We started our journey from the ground up, and now we're thrilled to have reached 23,000 subscribers on our channel! We offer a wide variety of content, including vlogs, collaborations, unboxing videos, recipes, special live streams, worship music videos, video game reactions, and gameplay walkthroughs. However, despite having a successful channel, I do have a lingering fear of change. In the past, I've had channels shut down due to copyright claims, which were a reflection of my actions at the time (being a "punk" as you mentioned). This experience ingrained the fear of losing years of hard work (28 years of content creation assets) through similar incidents. However, I've learned from my past mistakes and am now dedicated to creating positive and engaging content. Now, my biggest fear is not understanding new technologies and missing out on opportunities for growth. That's why I constantly explore new platforms and attend workshops to stay ahead of the curve. This is why I'm curious about Grindstone. Perhaps a veteran advertiser like myself could be a valuable asset to your team? We've included a link to our YouTube channel below so you can check out our content. (Link to YouTube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtl4Jh6IomgfhU96G_8DsTw/) Thanks for your time!

Welcome to the community! Definitely the place to be if you're trying to improve your content 👍
Video Feedback
I posted part 2 of the video I posted a week ago. I tried to incorporate a lot of the same stuff as the first one but after looking at some of the retention drop offs in this one I found a couple of things to adjust. If you guys have anything you see let me know and I'll make sure to make some changes for the next vid. Thank you for all the helpful video back from the last one!

@Houston Bernard I definitely usually have super quick intros but for these past 2 I tried leaning into the story a little more. I think a happy medium of 20 seconds like you said might be the best option though.

@Wyatt Watson yea Houston mentioned that as well, definitely something I will continue to test as I do this more. I think the 2 part series worked out pretty well so I'll probably do it again soon.
Editor Recommendations?
Hello again skoolmates 🫡 I'm on the hunt for someone who can edit my streams into clips and youtube videos. Does anyone have anyone they'd like to recommend? Or sites they've used to hire editors in the past? I have a clear vision and reference for what I'm going for, so I'm hoping I can hand off my stream recordings and it to someone without stressing about it. I'm finding that editing these myself is zero fun and too time-consuming for me 😅

Honestly I think twitter is a pretty good spot to find people. You’re able to see how good their work is as well as how much people actually like their work. I think a lot of people are very talented, but if you can’t market to a certain extent it kinda shows the lack of effort which is something that is the hardest part about hiring anyone. You need someone to hit those deadlines
