New studio desk designed specifically for recording, editing, production, mixing, mastering, video editing and production as well.
This thread will be my documentation of the entire build of my new production desk complete with pictures and explanation of every step of the way as well as measurements and materials list. I will be building a prototype out of materials that I have to remove from the studio during the remodel. I'm removing a set of cabinets that run across the entire back wall of my studio building (19 1/2 feet long by 3 feet tall and 2 feet deep). These are the materials I'll be using to build the prototype out of. Suggestions are welcome. If anyone has any ideas about how they would do it differently, I'd like to hear about it. If anyone wants to build one their self and can't quite find the proper design that will work well for them, here's your chance to see something new and won't cause early reflections off the desktop. Complete with 2 racks that are isolated from the main desk that also double as speaker stands with isolation pads on top of each for the monitors. 1 on each side of the desk itself. The desktop shape itself forces the 60 degree width of stereo field forming the equalateral triangle relative to the optimal listening position. Let me know what you think as this journey unfolds.

@Monroe Neese Might be the same writer!? The setup with Schrödinger's cat is Evil 😁, but also kind of the background to the Multiverse thinking, but then there are also mathematical and observed phenomenas which supports the hypothesis - just tricky to prove it 😳

@Reinfried Bartholomaeus That's very cool! It sounds like Waves' Element 2.0 Virtual Analog Synth. Have you tried to use a more lush reverb like Native Instrument's RAUM to get a deeper and more spacey reverb and then duck the reverb? Well, this is a taste thing, so... 😉

@Reinfried Bartholomaeus You have the instrument track from which you send the signal to an FX reverb channel. On the FX reverb channel you insert a compressor and then you side-chain that compressor from the instrument track. So, when your instrument is making some sound it will duck the reverb but when the instrument stops playing a sound then the reverb will come forward. In this way you can place the instrument closer and more present depending on how much you duck the reverb, and that is very useful when using long and big reverbs to avoid drowning the instrument/voice in reverb. Try this out in the combination with the reverb's pre-delay. Have fun 😉
Fun fact
I took me a while to find this info but I got there and it was so so satisfying. So… Does anyone know what the “NT” on Rode mics actually means? I do. It comes from the fact that when they first modified their mics, they flew out that quickly, they were compared to a rat up a drainpipe. Giving the now known Rode mics the name “Rodent - 1”, which was later compressed down to Rode NT. Gotta love an Aussie. Brilliant isn’t it?

@Lou Baker Well, in Sweden we use this character "Ö" instead of "Ø" which our neighbors do - Denmark and Norway 😉 But the character is pretty much pronounced in the same way and has the same placement in our alphabets.
When and Where To Use Reverb?
When mixing a song how do you know which instruments to add reverb to? Is there some kinda guide on what works best?

Experiment with it because there are no rules for this! It's all about taste and also coming up with something new. When I was working in an analog studio during the 80s I was using one reverb and maybe one delay as well on the main vocal, but today I'm using simultaneously 2-3 different reverbs and 1-2 different delays on the main vocal. Experiment and experiment and you will find your sound which might become a trade mark, because there is no correct way of using reverb and delay, or any other plugin.

@Klaus Baedorf This thing with getting all IDs in place etc can be done with a free registration on Session Studio which is supported by Max Martin and Björn Ulveus (ABBA) - I can highly recommend to sign up there. Here's Rick Beato interviewing Niclas Molinder, the man behind Session Studio https://youtu.be/-TM9foEQJ-Q

Was the head of a small analog 8-track studio during the 80th where we recorded a lot of local bands. I'm educated in electronics and music theory.
