Recording weird things.
What's the weirdest thing you've ever recorded? I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours. Lol 🤣. Mine was flies buzzing around a dog turd. It was for background sound effects at a Halloween party.

Knowledge Vs Tools
The knowledge is the power not the plugin. The plugin is just another tool in the box with a GUI and knobs and buttons. It knows nothing. It's up to the person using it to make it do what it does in a way that's pleasing to the ear and results in something that is cohesive with the rest of the tracks in the mix. Think about it this way. A hammer is a tool in the box. All it does is sit there until called upon for a specific task. The master craftsman needs to fasten one piece of wood to another. He chooses to use the hammer and some nails. He then places the nail carefully to ensure proper alignment so that maximum hold will happen between the two boards. Then starts with light taps to get it started and then drives the nail home. Does the hammer do the work? The answer is yes but not without the guidance and perfect aim of the master craftsman swinging it. When he's done, the two boards become one and the task is finished. The moral of this story is that without the knowledge of how the hammer works, the hammer just sits in the box being useless weight. Well I hope I've got my point across. What are your thoughts on this? Hope this helps. 🤠

@Jason Tufts Absolutely! Education grows the knowledge and in the end becomes a more effective tool. Learning is something that never stops in an ever changing world. As for needing more than we already have, the answer to that depends on the individual however the general answer for most people and certainly including myself is yes. We need all we can get and then some more if we can. 🤠

I don't have any "automatic" tools as such other than metering type stuff. I have done stock plugin mixes that sounded good. Also done mixes that have older premium plugins used that went faster because of the learning curve with a newer and different DAW (Reaper and Reaplugs). My older DAW is Steinberg Nuendo 4.3. from back in 2010 and All Waves 32 bit plugins. 🤠

@Diode J No need to fix it if it's not broken. No need to update. It's working beautifully. Did folks make great sounding stuff back in 2010? Of course they did. Just because it's old doesn't make it useless. Besides there's no updates for Windows 7 anymore anyway. None since 2017 I think. There are other reasons to crack a registered version. One is that it eliminates the need for an I lock or dongles taking up USB ports. Sometimes the dongles can cause issues with the software drivers and such. 🤠

Happy Accidents
I once had a recording interface malfunction during a drum recording session. It kept recording, but somehow added this crazy bitcrushing effect to all the channels. The wild part? It started right when the heavy chorus hit and ended up fitting the song perfectly, so I decided to keep it. Let's talk about your happy accidents in and around the studio!

Wow that's a cool story. I've got a ton of stories like that. Here's one of them. My bass player was playing along during a rehearsal and we were recording it and for some reason her bass started fretting out on both the G and the D string. It produced a really cool and strange sound like a bass sitar. So then we started working together to reproduce the effect on a keyboard and we made kind of a distorted sitar like tone and we're still using it today in the intro of one of our songs. It's kinda like an airplane landing when the tires skid at the first touch of the landing strip. 🤠
