Passed my DP-600 exam today!
(Repost from LinkedIn) I’m happy to share that I passed the DP-600 this morning!! It's really important that everyone on here and in my network knows that I don't think I would've got through this certification without the help of @Will Needham. His knowledge, his tutorials, his Skool communities (both Learn Microsoft Fabric and Fabric Dojo), his YouTube channel, but most of all his commitment to help others learn. The sheer amount of time he takes to create his tutorials and his videos is simply awe-inspiring. They give you hands on experience, but also get you thinking about how you can do it better in the future. I'm privileged and proud to be part of both of his communities. They're a great place to be. This certification isn't just for me, it's for him too. Thanks Will.

@Anthony Kain It certainly was nerve racking. Don't like exams really (although I don't know many people that do 😜). Probably put myself under way too much pressure. It was made worse as I did my exam with a proctor and towards the end the screen went blank for about 3 minutes. That didn't help my nerves at all. You'll love the Dojo. It's a great community.

Passed DP-600, Advice!
Howdy fellow Fabricators! I'm happy to report that I passed the DP-600 exam on the first try after two months of studying 15-30 minutes per day. My background is Data Engineering in Azure Synapse. Here are my takeaways. 1) Will's videos are a great base! 2) The practice tests from Microsoft are MUCH easier than the actual exam! Do not get complacent if you're doing well on those. 3) #1 BIGGEST TAKEAWAY: Learn how to Navigate Microsoft Learn! Seriously, this saved me, no doubt. I spent about an hour just learning how Microsoft Learn is structured and how to navigate from one set of documentation to the other. You need to learn how to navigate to Fabric documentation, PBI, DAX, M, and PowerQuery. You can go to Databricks for any PySpark you might not understand, too. You also need to understand the major keywords you'll need to search for based on the questions. 4) The was MUCH more about DAX than I expected, probably 6 questions. Same with M, probably 4 questions. Power Query was a solid 8 questions, with 3 of them being about data profiling. 5) Understand was query folding is important to know (or at least that it's part of Power Query so you search for it) 6) With the case study! You need to IMMEDIATELY know that there are a bunch of tabs that you need to review for each question. For example, the question will reference "Data requirements" but not state what they are. That's because they're in the data requirements tab. Will Needham! If you read this, I think a VERY valuable video would be to show yourself going through a few practice test questions and showing how to find the answers in MS Learn. I'm happy to collaborate with you on that if you'd like.

From previous Microsoft exams i've taken, i definitely suggest purchasing the Measure Up practice exam. They are very close to what the actual exams are like......well at least closer than the Microsoft Practice Exam anyway. they have case studies, re-ordering questions, fill in the code blanks and standard questions. Really useful.
Microsoft Fabric Project Advice: Getting into the Thick of It
This is a great article by Paul Turley (MVP) - I agree with a lot of it! In the article, Paul talks about: - Embracing OneLake/ Fabric - Choosing Your Data Engine (Spark or T-SQL?) - Enterprise Adoption Roadmaps - Designing for scalability - Road to governed self-service maturity - Adopting an architectural pattern that is right your unique organizational requirements - CI/CD strategy (including TMDL-based Power BI projects) - Grow with the Platform - an answer to the "is Fabric ready for production?" debate. 👉🔗 Read the full article here: https://sqlserverbi.blog/2024/10/17/microsoft-fabric-project-advice-getting-into-the-thick-of-it/ Let me know your thoughts below 👇

Fabric REST API now supports Service Principals 👀
This is a pretty big one. No official announcement yet, perhaps they will announce formally at next week's conference... But if you take a look at some of the REST API endpoint documentation (e.g. this Create Lakehouse endpoint), you will notice a small, but impactful change (see image). You will see that you can now create items from a Service Principal account (which was previously not supported). What does this mean, you might be asking? Well, traditionally, when you create things like a Lakehouse in Fabric, you become the owner. A Service Principal (which can be created and managed in Azure Entra ID) is a generic user account, that can be now used to create these items. This makes it easier to automate creation of new items at different stages in a CI/CD pipeline. And means the 'Owner' is the Service Principal, not an individual. Is this something that you've been waiting for? Let me know how you'll be using it below 👇
