2024.12.5: WOW (Workout of the Week)
What were your favorite races from this past year? Any races that you’re looking forward to participating in? Jump onto Skool and write it in the comments. Make sure to like what other paddlers share too! This past week was a lower mileage week for the body to recover. (Still about about 30+ miles). The upcoming week will move into some intervals for me. Happy New Year to everyone! This is the last WOW of 2024. Here is 2024.12.5 WOW! A fun one! 10' Warmup (WU) 2(1/1, 2/2, 3/3) at 90%/active 10' Cooldown (CD) You will do two rounds of 1 minute on, 1 minute active, 2 minutes on, 2 minutes active, 3 minutes on, 3 minutes active. You’re climbing the pyramid twice. The active paddling can be as light as you want, but it should be light. Good luck! 1 more day for the leadership board. Current standings are: Lana, Kevin, and Janet! Top 30-day contributors will be winning prizes or $$$. 1st - 1:1 on-water session with me ($200 value) 2nd - 1 week of Personalized Training Program ($90 value) 3rd - 1 gift of a month to a friend for to join TLC Skool Community ($50 value) Note: must be redeemed within the following month. PS: I’ll be online for 30 minutes each week for a Tek-Talk where I share about what it takes to develop community-focused paddlers and leaders. Here’s a video from this past week about 3 strategies for new/intermediate paddlers. https://youtu.be/FC4p4qYlySU

OK, as you know, I've been paddling about 6 years. Three of which I coached a team to 2 CCNC and 1 CCWC. NOW..... I am putting my effort into paddling. I would agree, for sure, the CCWC in Revenna was an incredible opportunity for me to race on a higher level. Bonus... two bronze and one silver!!! I look forward to my next challenge... Team USA! There was a new festival in Leesburg last May. We loved it! Hope they have it on the schedule again.
Mini Tek-Talk - 12/29/24 - Strategies for Paddlers
Which of the three strategies speak to you the most? Share it in the comment below and give a like/support to each other. I’ve been paddling for over 15 years. I've spent over 10 years helping develop paddlers and grow a team organically. Now I’m boiling all that experience into a blueprint to speed up your training and learning. There's many reasons why someone joins a paddling team, whether dragon boat or outrigger. There are many reasons why someone joins any hobby-based team. I started TLC with the mission of developing community-focused paddlers and leaders. I hope to inspire people who start off as paddlers to then use what they've learned to become leaders in their communities, because that's exactly how I got to where I am today. I started paddling in high school in 2006, so it's been close to 20 years of paddling now. I started off as a paddler my first year and soon became the captain and eventually the coach of my university team and then later my adult team. I have made many mistakes along the way, as well as successes. Today I wanted to briefly share strategies that I have for people to develop as new or intermediate paddlers. 1 - Figure out your why Why are you paddling? What is the reason why you come out to paddle and train? What do you enjoy the most about the paddling? This will help us anchor why we show up time and time again. In order for you to develop as a paddler, you need to look within and figure out why you do it. Note that this can change over time, but it's still important to dial down and figure out what drives you. 2 - Figure out your short term and long term goals I think it's safe to say that everyone wants to make improvements and want to get better. That should be the general direction that you are heading in. However, often times the biggest challenge is actually focusing. When we have a goal that is generally well-intentioned but no actual steps, we don't end up going anywhere. Depending on what is most salient to you at this time, write down 1-2 short terms goals and write down 1-2 long term goals. At this time, they don't need to necessarily connect but do write them down. It will help you focus on how you want to improve and take the next step.

Well said Tek.
2024.12.2: WOW (Workout of the Week)
Japan trip was an amazing time, but it was nice to return to the regularly scheduled routine back at home. This past week was easing back into paddling mileage with 35 miles. This upcoming week I'll be getting in some more mileage and also harder miles during the workouts. I'm going to get a deep tissue massage and also getting a doctor's checkup. Going to make sure things are looking healthy as we head into the last few weeks of the 2024 year. Here is 2024.12.2 WOW! 10' Warmup (WU) 8(5/1) at 70%/rest 10' Cooldown (CD) Note that this one is at 70% effort. If it feels too easy, you can go up to 80% but no need to go higher than that for this base building portion.

Your adventures in Japan looked amazing!! The workout today was great. Working on the long and strong pulls while keeping that HR at 70%... Great challenge.
