Years ago my grandson had some severe reactions to a vaccine. Needless to say, that was the end of vaccines for that family. His parents fed him green smoothies with cilantro. The results were excellent and we're thankful that he didn't suffer continued reactions.

@Toni Harned Yes, isn't it? I've been an advocate of healthy eating and natural medicine for years. I was so thankful my grandson recovered. He is now a very bright home schooled 10 yr. old, and tested at the 99th percentile in his 4th grade state testing last year.

Shani's Herb Spotlight Saturday: The Marvels of Mullein!
Happy Weekend, Wellness Peeps! 🌿 Mullein: A Medicinal Marvel with Deep Roots 🌿 Origin & Overview: Mullein (Verbascum thapsus) is a biennial plant that has been cherished in herbal medicine for centuries. Native to Europe, Asia, and North Africa, it has spread to many parts of the world, including North America, where it’s often found growing in sunny, disturbed soils. Its tall, spiky flower stalks and fuzzy, silver-green leaves make it quite recognizable. Medicinal Benefits: 1. Respiratory Health: Mullein is most renowned for its benefits to the respiratory system. Its soothing properties help in easing coughs, colds, and bronchitis. The plant’s compounds can help to loosen mucus, making it easier to expel and reducing congestion. 2. Anti-Inflammatory Properties: The anti-inflammatory effects of mullein make it useful for soothing sore throats and reducing inflammation in the respiratory tract. This can be particularly beneficial for those suffering from chronic respiratory conditions. 3. Ear Health: Mullein oil, often infused with garlic, is traditionally used to alleviate earaches. Its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties help to reduce pain and infection in the ear canal. 4. Skin Care: Mullein has been used topically for its potential to aid in the healing of wounds, burns, and other skin irritations. Its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties contribute to its effectiveness in promoting skin health. 5. Digestive Aid: Some herbalists use mullein to support digestive health, noting its potential to ease symptoms of digestive discomfort and promote overall digestive wellness. How to Use Mullein: - Tea: Steep dried mullein leaves in hot water to make a soothing tea, especially useful for respiratory issues. - Tincture: A concentrated liquid extract of mullein can be taken to support respiratory health and overall wellness. - Oil: Infused mullein oil can be applied to the outer ear for earaches or used topically for skin issues. - Capsules: Mullein is available in capsule form for those who prefer a more convenient option. - Smoke: I have seen some great results for people trying to quit smoking cigarettes, marijuana or vape by smoking mullein.

I had one pop up unexpectedly in my flower bed last year. Tried to spread some of the seed but didn't see anything this year. I look for it all over and so far haven't had any luck. Our son meanwhile has it growing all up and down the road where he lives. I'm trying to introduce it to my neighborhood.
Shani's Herb Spotlight - Blue Vervain
It's Herb Spotlight Saturday, and our in house herbalist has graced us with another lesson! Herb Spotlight-Blue Vervain Blue vervain is native to North America, particularly thriving in wet meadows and along stream banks. Indigenous peoples of North America have long utilized this plant for its medicinal properties, often referring to it as "Indian verbena" or "American vervain." Historically, blue vervain was used in various traditional practices to address a range of ailments, from digestive issues to emotional distress. The plant's use also extends to other cultures; in European herbal medicine, vervain (notably Verbena officinalis, which is different but closely related) was historically prized for its supposed protective and purifying qualities. Over time, the American variant has carved out its niche in herbal medicine, celebrated for its unique benefits. Medicinal Benefits: 1. Digestive Health: Blue vervain is renowned for its potential to soothe digestive issues. It is often used to alleviate symptoms such as indigestion, bloating, and nausea. The herb is thought to have mild laxative properties, which can help in promoting regular bowel movements. 2. Relaxation and Stress Relief: The calming effects of blue vervain make it a popular choice for those seeking to manage stress and anxiety. It is believed to have mild sedative properties that can promote relaxation and help ease tension. Some use it as a natural remedy to support restful sleep and alleviate symptoms of insomnia. 3. Anti-inflammatory and Pain Relief: Blue vervain contains compounds that may possess anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. This makes it a valuable herb for reducing inflammation and providing relief from minor pain and discomfort. 4. Respiratory Support: The herb has been traditionally used to support respiratory health. It is thought to help with conditions such as coughs and colds by acting as an expectorant, which helps to clear mucus from the airways. 5. Detoxification: Some herbalists use blue vervain as a mild detoxifier, believing that it helps support the body's natural cleansing processes. It is thought to assist in the elimination of toxins and support overall liver health.

I have this growing near me and have used it along with skullcap in a tea. It calms down the brain from thoughts racing at night.
