I think all of that for me is a worry. With such an ever changing landscape it can be hard to keep up at times. Even harder to afford to keep up. Every time I look at a class or some online training the prices are outrageous! What's worse? The fact that the classes seem to be all people know. No one seems to care about legitimate knowledge from other sources, you have to have some extra letters after your name instead.

@Phillipe McCracken Thanks for the feedback, I have started to take that approach a bit too. My only focus on certificates are if I can get them covered by someone else just to have that "marketable" aspect so to say. Until there is more Distons in the world, having some BS letters after my name will stay a requirement to get looked at sometimes.
Welcome to Real Security Heretics README
A lot of people have read The Problem of Security. You've bought it, hence you being invited into this community. I wanted to offer a place where you can all discuss the problems, themes and ideas that I presented. You sure cannot do it on LinkedIn. If you haven't bought the book yet, you can get it here. Nobody is getting in here without doing that. https://realsecuritydoctor.thrivecart.com/the-problem-of-security-book/ If you like my approach, you might enjoy the webinars, which you can find in the Classroom area. These are presented as individual recordings for purchase separately. They are also included in the Surgery membership that has a similar community site to this but with more engagement from me and exclusive content. You also get access to the live delivery of the monthly webinar, online course discounts and more. You can become a Surgery member and get access to that community and all those benefits here. https://www.realsecuritydoctor.com/signup The rules of Real Security Heretics? 1.There is only room for one Dick in here. 🤣 2.Stick around, ask questions, be open and civil. 3.No spam, no personal attacks. 4.No 'top 10 lists of free resources'. 5. No shilling for any business or organisation - unless you are me. 🤣 Leave all that shit on LinkedIn. Membership is a privilege, not a right. If in doubt about anything you are about to say or do...don't.

Oh good, I only have "Top 5" resource lists.
Here's an observation...
We all know that the root of the word 'security' is Se (without) and Curus (care) in Latin. It literally translates as 'being without care'. Another word we can use for this is COMFORT. Now, how much of what you have been taught or done is focused on making people comfortable? None. Our messaging is all fear-based ('impact drives the conversation' and all that nonsense). Do people make better decisions when they are uncomfortable, do you think? How about learning a different approach?

I think that while we have to maintain a fear based mantra that truly captures the why we need something, it does take effort to express it in a way that someone listening to you understands. Too much "ooga booga" seems to make people dismissive even when it is factual.
