How To Host Your First In-Person Event
Just finished hosting 50+ Skoolers from around the world in my hometown Belfast. Here's three things I learned to help you plan your first IRL event :) // 1. Don't plan the schedule too strictly Everyone's favourite moments of the week were unplanned. - The unexpected topics we covered - The random places we went for dinner - And the laughs/tears we shared along the way There's a reason why @Sam Ovens and @Alex Hormozi start every single 1-day with a blank page. @Nick Guadagnoli calls it "emergence theory," and it's the secret sauce most IRL events skip. (It took me 7 back-to-back trips to Vegas to finally figure this out lol. Don't take as long as I did). // 2. Leave a little wiggle room for things to "go wrong" Something @Ted Carr and I always talk about is that "the difference between a trip and an adventure is that something goes wrong." - Getting stuck in fog while hiking up a mountain - Forgetting a towel while going sea-swimming - Not having enough chairs because so many people showed up All these things created "shared experiences" for us to go through together — which resulted in super-powerful memories, bonds and stories. We didn't get it all right. But we had a lot of fun along the way. // 3. Your Community is craving in-person connection more than you think. People spent thousands of dollars to fly to Belfast from places like Canada, France, Holland, Switzerland, Germany, United States, and Australia (35 hours). The one reason they came? (According to @Calvin Hollywood) "Proximity," AKA to be around: - Like-minded people - Who are trying to achieve the same goal - And a group where they felt like they belonged This is the reason people joined your community in the first place. Why not take it offline?

Hey @Matthew Thompson I’ve been hosting / going to events for 20 + years The energy on this one was simply outstanding ! I can’t put my finger on it but maybe it’s the nature of Skool and the fact it is based on community’s All I know is this a great journey to be on! Goose , Nav, Ted all making me feel part of the family And the amount of people that reached out personally during / post event . Glad to be here . Stronger together!
Don’t Make This Mistake (Coaching Instead of Community 🙈)
What I'm about to share has cost me quite a bit of stress, and most people still get it wrong to this day—especially when they come from the coaching world and try to build a community here. -------------------------------------------------------------- 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 - 𝗮 𝗥𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝙈𝙚𝙢𝙗𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙥 𝘼𝙧𝙚𝙖 Many are familiar with this. It’s an area where you gain access to watch various videos and courses. Nowadays, some platforms allow group interaction where members can exchange ideas. However, the main focus is on watching videos and learning from the person who created them. 𝘾𝙤𝙖𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 You have a person you learn from, who gives you tips and guides you toward your goals. In many cases, this could also be a trainer who works with you (like a personal trainer). 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙮 You join a network of many people who all have the same goal. You exchange ideas and team up with a few to perhaps even collaborate or learn from one another. -------------------------------------------------------------- Now, some coaches come to this platform and try to use the community like a membership area or even as a coaching platform. I want to make the difference clear with the following metaphor: Let’s say you want to become a better “boxer.” You have several options: 1️⃣ You regularly attend events where boxing trainers and pro boxers give talks, which you watch and take notes on (Membership Area). 2️⃣ You find a coach who trains you regularly and helps you improve (Coaching). 3️⃣ You join a boxing club, where you regularly train with others under the guidance of a trainer (Community). -------------------------------------------------------------- In all three examples, there is some sort of “expert” involved. But the level of involvement varies in each case. If you ask me which method is the best, it obviously depends on the type of person you are and your budget. 𝘽𝙪𝙩 𝙄’𝙙 𝙖𝙧𝙜𝙪𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙟𝙤𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙗𝙤𝙭𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙘𝙡𝙪𝙗 𝙢𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙗𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙢𝙤𝙨𝙩 𝙛𝙪𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙖𝙘𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙗𝙡𝙚. That’s why I’ve decided to dedicate my future to the topic of communities.

Another Weird "About" Page Experiment
Been getting 30%+ conversion rate to a free group with super minimal about page. Just built this one. The image is MORE minimal but the copy is longer. We'll see how it does! (Kinda want to cut out some of the copy but I'll let it ride for a minute.) Anyone else doing super minimal stuff with good results?
