Realistic Panning Plugin
Hey there! I got an advice to use realistic panning plugins like Vienna MIR to make the sound more real. Is anyone of you using it, is it worth the money? Are those kind of plugins really necessary for a realistic sound? And does anyone use an alternative, beacuse 750 Bucks for a panning plugin are atm too much to spend for me.

Yes, Vienna MIR Pro is really great. It's so easy to create depth in your mix and it sounds so much more realistic than normal reverbs. If you like the sound of older Spitfire libraries with the reverb from Air Studios, you can also try Air Studios Reverb from Spitfire, which is similar to MIR Pro, where you can place the different instruments in different positions in the room as well.

@Dave Graham Hi, I do. But I haven´t paid that much. VSL usually give a discount of up to 50% on each product category once a year. So it makes sense to buy Vienna products during this discount period. And you can always test Vienna products free of charge for 30 days. But Vienna MIR Pro is not a pure panning plug-in!
Potentially my first gig in the film industry
Hello. A few days ago I sent an application to a director/screenwriter who is preparing her first film. I did it a bit as a joke, without taking it very seriously because, despite liking the audiovisual industry, I barely have any experience (only three short songs on YouTube and I am currently composing for two video games). However, I didn't expect her to accept my application! Now she has asked me to set up an interview, and I am very nervous because I have never gotten to this point. I am writing here to ask for advice from someone who has more experience in this (probably several of you who are reading me). What kind of questions do interviewers typically ask in the film industry, for example? What should I ask? Thank y'all in advance ☺️

Hi Lourdes, two other questions you can ask are about the schedule and the process. Especially when you can get the final cut of the movie and ater this how much time will be left until the music should be finished? You can also ask the director if it will be okay for her during your composing process if you send her 30 to 60 second drafts before you work out longer scenes. This question will give the director the feeling that you are completely open to a close collaboration and her "critique", but at the same time it will save you later on from having to compose longer sections, only to have to throw them in the bin if she doesn't like them after you've composed the whole thing.

Hi @Alex Pfeffer and everyone, this is my first demo reel. I am very grateful for this challenge. Because of this deadline I not only wrote all the soundtracks for my demo reel within two weeks, but with Alex's help I also learned how to create images, poems and animated videos with AI and how to use Reelcrafter. Two weeks ago, I thought all of this would take me a few months. Thank you, Alex, for this challenge, your support and the great advice! Now it seems I have no choice but to send it to film directors and audio directors and get a good job ;-)
Making Soundtracks for a game with the same melody?
I always wanted to make tracks for games with same recognizable melodies for example elements that appear again or melodies that catch the player and lets him say "Oh I know that melody" some kind of recognition but somehow it's not working for me. It's not about composing a catchy melody but making it reappear in other tracks that are also for the game. Imagine you work for a studio and want to compose Soundtracks that will connect together through the vibes and the melody. How would you do it? Anyone have tips?

Hello Dilara, even though this thread has moved away from how I understand your original question, I would still like to respond to your original question. When I read your question, I thought you wanted to write a melody for the main hero that changes depending on the environment, emotional mood, etc. Sometimes it should sound excited and heroic, sometimes down and depressed, sometimes it should fit a love scene and sometimes it should sound magical or spooky. For such a melody, I would first make sure of two things: 1) That the melody sounds good both as a major and a minor version. This is either the case if the melody itself sounds good with a major and with a minor scale, or if the exact same melody can be accompanied with different chord sequences once in more minor and once in more major, a more epic version with mediant chord connections meandering between major and minor, as well as a magical and a spooky version both times also with mediant chord connections is usually possible with all major or minor melodies anyway. If you prefer modal scales, the principle is actually the same, that you should either be able to change scales or accompany the same scale with different chord progressions. And if you want to change such a melody depending on the cultural environment, for example on a trip around the world with a stop in China, you would have to make sure that the melody also makes sense in a pentatonic version in the Chinese environment. Or if you want to change it into an Arabian snake dance, the melody should still be recognizable in a gypsy minor scale. Etc. 2) Secondly, I would try to do one version of the melody in triple time signature and another in quadruple time signature. This way you can dress up the same melody in different clothes. For example, as a heroic march in 4/4 time and as a love waltz in 3/4 time. Of course, one of the versions can have more notes than the other. If your melody meets these two conditions, it is easy to melt it into all kinds of emotional moods, as well as different cultural colorations.

VSL has a full "Big Bang" Orchestra, a "Fujara Flute", a "Bösendorfer Imperial" grand piano and others for free: https://www.vsl.co.at/de/Product_Overview/Free_Instruments. But you need an iLok for it.
