Next Community Call is 10/16, Wed 1pm EST. The topic of this COMMUNITY CALL is "HOW TO BE MORE AGGRESSIVE & OVERCOME FEAR OF FAILURE". This will be a great call for players, parents & coaches that probably see this all the time. We'll unpack why this happens & some action steps to overcome it. Click on “CALENDAR” & you’ll get the zoom link for the call. What are some questions you may have for me concerning this topic? I'll do a Q&A to finish

WHY WE KICKED 400+ MEMBERS
💪As you may have seen recently, I'm focusing on improving this community Unfortunately over 400 people here were completely inactive, so we removed them. 🤯What's crazy is that 95.2% of people are STILL at level 1... Part of a thriving community is the sense of community itself 🫥Which lacks when a large chunk of the people are invisible. So if you haven't already, introduce yourself here and start to engage in the comments! 🏀We're all here to become better Point Guards, so let's help each other out!

I’m a former player and coach. Never competed on Collegiate level or higher but I am trying to pay it forward to the next generation when it comes to work ethic. Also I want to instill how God wants us to enjoy this blessing 🏀 cuz that was the biggest missing puzzle piece for me growing up
TEAM USA Comeback win vs Serbia (Olympics)
Did anyone else see that amazing comeback win USA had against the Jokic led Serbia team??? Let me know why you think they were down by 17 in the second half? Lebron, KD, Curry, Embid, etc had nothing going. Was Serbia really that good or was it just an off night for USA? Here are some thoughts for BASKETBALL IQ purposes: - The European style of basketball is beautiful. Olympics & Fiba really highlight player movement & ball movement. This takes away the advantage of the best athletes & highlight skill & IQ. - USA players are your best iso NBA players. Their style is more isolated with the best athletes & shot creators in the World. This is a different style of play so there will be stretches where they struggle. The comeback was amazing, lots of heart, big shots & gave incredible effort on defense to dig in. - Jason Tatum. He's been getting benched and that is a media focus but it was mainly the matchup with Serbia he has not played. Also lets look at his position, he's got Lebron & KD ahead of him. Its a shorter game than the NBA, less of a rotation is needed. Not to mention Tatum is the ultimate iso player of this whole group in my opinion, its not favorable for him with that stacked lineup. - Point Guards, I want you to watch how many high IQ players & plays are made per possession. Its really be fun to watch, how many great decisions, quick cuts, extra passes & movement happens every offensive play. - Physical Rules, I've played in leagues overseas that allow physical play & hand checking. I can tell you it really makes the game harder in many ways: tougher to get the ball up court, tough to get open on wings, no easy layups or drives, hard fouls are common & it takes away a lot of your dribbling ability to create space.

PRE GAME ROUTINES
I had a coach in the community ask me a great question about what was my pre-game routine. So I wanted to ask you guys if you had any advice as well on an effective pre game routine to prepare you for the game? It could be physical, mental, spiritual, healthy habits... The question I got was focused more on how to get in the right state of mind & spiritually how did I prepare. So before I got in-depth on all those things let me share with you how I prepared my mind & spirit on game days. GAME DAY PREP (Spiritually): -My morning routine for an evening tip off involved breakfast & then a time I got away 30-60 mins in a quiet place to read the Bible & pray. This is important because I took this into the game, here's what I did. I would read 2-3 chapters in the Bible. I would pray & give that game over to the Lord. This always took the pressure off of me, I view basketball as a form of worship. I believe anytime we're using our talent or gifts God has given us it can be used in a way to honor God & worship. -Next I would pick 1 verse that I read in the Bible that really spoke to me. I'd write it down on a small slip of paper & memorize that throughout the day so I had it locked into my mind/spirit by game time. -I would put that paper into my sock before the game. It did something amazing for me because anytime I felt pressure, stress, worry, anxiousness, etc I would just reach down & touch my sock & it would remind me that God is with me & I'm worshipping him through anything that happens. It always brought me great peace, once I started doing this routine it took away much of my anxiety & stress I had leading up to games & playing in pressure situations. I truly believe that is why I hit multiple game winning shots in college/overseas because I felt no pressure & had given up every game I played to the Lord. I'm sure some may disagree with me but this was my pre game routine that worked for me. One of my primary goals with the game of basketball was to use it as a platform to point to Jesus.

PRE GAME ROUTINES
4 likes • Oct 7
Since I’ve been saved 4 years ago, I’ve been viewing life so differently. So when I came out of retirement recently to play in this league 🏀 I have a new perspective. Spiritually my pre-game routine includes praying for covering, protection, and prevention against injuries for me, my teammates, and my opponents. I’d also be listening to praise and worship as I do my stretching and on-court warmup. I want to incorporate more in terms of spiritually preparing for a game because those 10 minutes before the game don’t feel like enough later. I can sense my joy slipping away whenever I get frustrated at myself for turnovers or a shooting slump. I also still get angry when foul calls feel one-sided. I still have a lot of work to do in order to balance my competitive nature and my spiritual side. I know once I improve on this, not only will I play more free from who I was as a hooper before Christ, but I will glorify Jesus more. And I’ll also be able to give a testimony and sound advice to the players I coach now. Looking forward to hearing what others do for a pre-game routine 🏀 Iron sharpens iron 🙏🏿
