Did anyone else see that amazing comeback win USA had against the Jokic led Serbia team??? Let me know why you think they were down by 17 in the second half? Lebron, KD, Curry, Embid, etc had nothing going. Was Serbia really that good or was it just an off night for USA?
Here are some thoughts for BASKETBALL IQ purposes:
- The European style of basketball is beautiful. Olympics & Fiba really highlight player movement & ball movement. This takes away the advantage of the best athletes & highlight skill & IQ.
- USA players are your best iso NBA players. Their style is more isolated with the best athletes & shot creators in the World. This is a different style of play so there will be stretches where they struggle. The comeback was amazing, lots of heart, big shots & gave incredible effort on defense to dig in.
- Jason Tatum. He's been getting benched and that is a media focus but it was mainly the matchup with Serbia he has not played. Also lets look at his position, he's got Lebron & KD ahead of him. Its a shorter game than the NBA, less of a rotation is needed. Not to mention Tatum is the ultimate iso player of this whole group in my opinion, its not favorable for him with that stacked lineup.
- Point Guards, I want you to watch how many high IQ players & plays are made per possession. Its really be fun to watch, how many great decisions, quick cuts, extra passes & movement happens every offensive play.
- Physical Rules, I've played in leagues overseas that allow physical play & hand checking. I can tell you it really makes the game harder in many ways: tougher to get the ball up court, tough to get open on wings, no easy layups or drives, hard fouls are common & it takes away a lot of your dribbling ability to create space.
