Asking for help: Does anyone want a free master?
Admins, please remove this post (or DM me to remove it) if it's not allowed. I've completed the Mastering training in The Reverse Engineer a while back and got the thumbs up from Caleb, Dane, and Jake after they reviewed an album I mastered to move on to the Mixing training. I've decided to really start promoting my mastering services to the public while I continue to work on the mixing training. After a quick review of where I'm at with Jake, I need some more songs in my portfolio that aren't course material. So, this is where you come in. Do you have a good stereo mix in the rock / pop genres that I can make really stand out for you? Even if you've already mastered and released it, that's fine. I would just re-master your mix, and I'll do it for free. My ask back in return would be that if you like the master I did, that you write me a quick testimonial for my website and give me permission to put the before and after example audio on my website. Don't worry, I'd never release anything. It would be for example purposes only to get future work. If you want some social proof, just ask @Timothy Shay as I've done a master for him that he was happy with. My website is a work in progress, thus the reason for my post. For those of you who have been using AI mastering services, I'd be happy to go head to head against it and deliver something that sounds better. If you're interested and you have a good mix that you are proud of, shoot me a DM here on Skool (or comment and I'll get in touch with you). If for some reason your mix isn't ideal to be mastered, I'll tell you why so you can go back and make the adjustments. Thanks for your help. 🙂

I use Tunecore. When I was first looking for distribution I researched a bunch and picked them because I felt they had more to offer.

@J Es yeah. I doubt it's just them. These distributors have some weird stuff in their TOS as consequences of what they consider "abuse" (fake streams, etc) which are very vague and very much in their favour. Tunecore were just the unlucky ones who had their TOS analyzed. Other distributors to join the list I imagine.
Reflecting on Quincy Jones and the lessons I learned…
Working on "We Are The World" was one of the greatest blessings of my life and career, and I learned a lot of lessons watching him, Michael Jackson, and Lionel Richie put together that legendary song from beginning to end. I think this might be helpful to others too. Quincy Jones was not a legend by accident. Everything he did, from what I observed, was based on immense talent, deep insights, and life lessons that made him look beyond the surface for what touches the soul. This goes way beyond just musical skills. It's a way of looking at all things. From the first day of tracking I was like a fly on the wall listening to the conversations he and Michael would have about what they wanted people to FEEL when they heard the song. It was way beyond the notes. It had to touch the heartstrings and tap into us all being one, no matter what color, nationality, enthnicity, or religion. To make that happen via sound was very intentional. Watching and listening why they cast certain musicians, find the right sounds, modify the feeling of different parts, and craft the lyrics was amazing. Listening to them explain why things like the bass part and sound had to be changed to not draw too much attention to it ,or be too funky was an incredible insight. The song should always be about "We" and never "I" am the world. Mind-blowing! Watching Michael Jackson pull out the original lyrics and then they all zeroed in on certain lines like changing it to "there's a CHOICE we're making. We're saving OUR OWN LIVES" instead of (and I'm paraphrasing) "there's a chance we're taking. We're saving all their lives" was so eye opening because they always wanted the song to be INCLUSIVE so that it's not a separate US vs THEM thing, even though the song was about saving starving children. We are all in this together and that was their purposeful mission. Changing little lyric phrases like that made the song a masterpiece, so MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!! There were so many lessons I learned during that time that I will always carry with me and I still use to this day. So dig DEEP beyond the surface of all aspects of your music and never stop short.

Thanks for sharing. What an experience! Quincy Jones is one of my favourite producers.
Midi controller suggestions
Hi, inquiring to see what "sample" piano performers use as a controller. I'm using a Roland FP-50 as my keyboard. I have to compensate my playing to accommodate the given velocity curves from the sample packs, it just doesn't feel natural. I would like a controller that makes playing similar to playing a real piano. Thoughts appreciated. Thanks 😃

M-Audio makes an 88 key semi weighted controller.
TRE Calendar
Does anyone know why there are no events scheduled for November except for the production event?
