Cymbal Swell VSTs
Curious what people are using for nice rich cinematic cymbal swells? I get okay sounds with what I have, but I know there has to be some better options out there. Most of what I have ends up too bright and I end up pasting in the same samples I've used for years. :-/ They do the job, but I'm looking for that rich velvety cymbal swells that works for epic tracks and sweeping landscape shots.

@Nikita Malko I actually have that. Haven't used it in a while. I liked the toms, but they were unnecessarily heavy on the CPU use. But I'll definitely check out the cymbals.

@Henning Nugel Wow those do sound good. I ever laugh at what works. ;-)
Free Uaudio plugin (native)
Hi, not sure if it's OK to post about free plugins here, so please remove if not within the rules, @Alex Pfeffer. Download the Century Tube Channel Strip here, for a limited time: Century Tube Channel Strip | UAD Audio Plugins | Universal Audio (uaudio.com)

I've found it's good to grab some free stuff to use on a laptop or other mobile device since it's hard to carry a UA card around. ;-)
8dio Sale: Is it worth getting their choir bundle etc?
Hello Everybody, I am interested in buying some products from 8dio to add to my collection due to their really affordable prices and I wouldn’t mind adding some more to the pot for my current studies and future productions. My starting styles of interest is the hybrid-Cinematic trailer music realm and film scoring. When it comes to choir, I know that Alex highly recommended libraries like Audio Imperia Chorus, Performances Samples Oceania and, Strezov Sampling Stormchoir, but until they go on sale in the future maybe for Black Friday, I could get 8dio all choir bundle for $119 with the current sale. Also, the choir’s I do have is Heavyocity Vocalise and Native Instruments Choir Omnia and some miscellaneous free etc. I am waiting to see future deals like at the end of the year for products like Audio Imperia etc. for drums-percussion and I do own like Heavyocity D1 and D2, Keep-forest, but due to the affordable deal again at 8dio, do you think I should also nab from 8dio for layering purposes? I am interested in possibly getting the Epic solo and Ensemble Taikos, which come out to $11.20 each with bulk buying and Epic Toms Ensemble and Dhol etc., Epic Toms Ensemble $22, epic frame drum ensemble $11.20. Just for food for thought for me, what do you think of any of there orchestral stuff and Soundpaint plugins and interface. I am also eyeing their Epic Taikos 2.0 that just came out not too long ago. Thank you everyone for your help and assistance to a beginner. Produce on!!!! Jeff

I've gotten a lot of good use out of the Requiem Choir. I got it really cheap on a sale a few years ago. I mix them with other choirs though. I have the Liberis Angelic Choir as well from another sale, but it's more of a niche scoring thing. It's good to experiment with layering lots of cheaper choirs, layering them together. Eventually you'll be able to shop for some more high end ones with an informed ear. Right now I'm mixing Requiem with The Choir Essentials and UVI's Choir from the Orchestal Suite.

@Jeff Epstein The choir in the UVI Orchestra Suite sounds great, but has only a few vowel articulations ( ah, oh, and ooh). So it's more of a thickener that shines on long ahs. It even has an eerie children's choir that can be really creepy. ;-)
Clean Sounding Bass
I can't figure out how to get the bass to sound clean, mainly when playing it spiccato. Comparing it to other tracks, mine always gets lost in the background and you can't really tell when the note is actually beeing played...I've tried cutting off the low end and then boosting it but still doesen't seem to be enough. Any tips would be greatly appreciated 😄

Good comments. Yes, it's actually a bit too clean and round for the job. Maybe look for picked bass samples and experiment with overdrive and EQing the really low frequencies off. don't be afraid to try having a few basses going playing the same part and EQ them differently to make a single sound.
Most Common Trailer Music Mistakes
Hey everyone, couldn't hold back and finally recorded a video about this topic. I have worked with many composers so far and listen to hundreds of trailer tracks (actually it must be probably over a thousand by now 😅) and almost everyone is exactly doing these same mistakes over and over! Make sure to follow these suggestions, then you will have success in this industry. Your music will be licensed and heard!

I highly recommend Alex's Trailer Music Trailblazer's course. It will help drive home all of the points he is making in this video.

@Dag Ove Vareberg Just ask Alex. ;-) I can tell you my experience as well. Once you get all the basics and learn about libraries and sounds, there are videos where he goes through the whole process of creating a track. I used these videos as a guide and created my own track while watching the videos step by step. I didn't move on till I got to the same place he was with my track.
