Silent Sunday is exactly as it sounds. This is a tough for so many people, but SO helpful for creating better mindsets for yourself! I read something a while back and it was a study of a group of people and they were asked if they would rather sit alone with their thoughts for 15 minutes or get shocked. About half of them preferred the shock. Which one are you? That’s pretty crazy if you think about it. 15 minutes, people aren’t able to sit with themselves with no phones, tv or anything. They don’t like their own company :( The more comfortable you can get sitting with your thoughts and asking WHY you are thinking what you are thinking and asking if it’s a positive or negative thought, the better you will be able to navigate through the negative ones and find the positive. Common example… “I’m such a lazy ass, I didn’t make it to the gym today, now I’m fat and probably lost all my gains, I may as well just stop going now” —- The spiral of negative thoughts will go and go and go… I’ve seen this first hand with all of my fitness clients. The thought of missing the gym doesn’t end there at just missing the gym, it goes to body shaming and thinking they are lazy and everything they’ve worked for is gone etc.. Sitting with yourself for even TWO minutes simply asking yourself ‘why am I thinking this’ can help you, I promise. You may have missed the gym, but maybe you had a super productive day at work and gained some brownie points with your boss. Maybe you were able to get extra family time. Maybe you were able to knock a couple extra things off the task list. Don’t let the one negative turn into 15 more unnecessary thoughts that spiral you into thinking you suck. Because you don’t. It doesn’t have to be a ‘meditation’ as I know so many people are turned away from that word. Start small with 1 minute and think about something great that happened that day and if you can’t find something ‘great’ happened ask yourself how you can start shifting that thought into finding something because there is ALWAYS something positive that happened. It doesn't matter how small it is. The more you can find, the better your days will be.
