5 contributions to 7-Day Breath Hold Challenge
Post Your Breath Hold (Week 45: Nov 4th - Nov 10th)
Post all your Breath Hold Times here! Let's go & double your breath hold! 🧑‍🏫 Step 1: Take an inhale, start your stopwatch & hold your breath. Step 2: Post your time here so you can get feedback and points Step 3: Head on over to the Classroom & follow the instructions Already participated last week, or last month? No worries, you can post and do it as much as you want (as a matter of fact, we'd only encourage it 😎) And if you done the challenge once (or twice), feel free to shake it up a little bit. Do exhale breath holds only for a week, or take it easy and do 1-2 breath holds a day without going for a max. Variety is the spice of life. Get to level 4 in the Leaderboards, and you unlock the Superhuman Lungs training protocol (who doesn't want to have lungs like the Human Dolphin?) Post at least 3 times before the week is over, and you may be the lucky winner of the Breath Hold Mastery course 😎 And last (but not least) a little shout out to last weeks top 10 leaderboard: @Mucchan Toshima @Curro Cachinero @Denis Blanchard @Tina Mosner @Bruce Stayne @Inese Rieta @Elliot Raboy @Abednego Moses Suryanda @Luca Pinelli @Teija Lehtinen

@Denis Blanchard I guess. I think Stig mentioned something about the WHM in a podcast, but can't remember what his precautions were. I found this explanation for the danger of hyperventilation for free diving: Over-breathing (hyperventilation) is dangerous for freedivers for the following reasons: 1. Having reduced the levels of carbon dioxide in the blood, the diver has taken away their primary urge to breathe and so they risk blacking out without any warning 2. It constricts the arteries supplying blood to the brain, and in extreme cases can cause a blackout before the diver has left the surface 3. It raises the heart rate, thus increasing the rate at which the body burns precious oxygen 4. It can take the body from a relaxed (parasympathetic) state of being to a ‘flop, freeze, fight or flight’ (sympathetic) state 5. It causes oxygen to bond more strongly to hemoglobin (the Bohr effect), reducing the ability of your body to use the oxygen when it most needs it.

@Tina Mosner Yes. Increase tolerance for stress and low levels of O2.

@Elliot Raboy Interesting. Maybe hard to find the perfect moment again. Beginners luck maybe. It might be the same for professional athletes. Training and training before competition, but not sticking it when it finally matters. I think I have to experiment more with the inhale and exhale to be able to reduce CO2 as much as possible. Next time I might try something similar to Wim How breathing, however a little slower, and see how that works.

Last day of the 7-day breathold (distributed over a periode of 3 weeks). - 1st Dive: 2:34 - 2nd Dive: 2:50 - 3rd Dive: Sub Max 3:48 - 4th Dive: Max 3:30 I was not satisfied by my max, as my first max was 4:15. Managed 4:01.
Mostly New Breath Hold Lounge
Hello everyone. This is the mostly new Breath Hold lounge. Some of you are probably wondering why a new one. The other one had a lot of posts, but not a lot of people used it anymore. So I am hoping to make this one more fun. This is also the place for questions if you have one. A few rules though. Make sure to post your breath hold times in the breath hold thread. If they aren't posted in the correct place then you don't have a chance on winning a weekly giveaway prize. They will also be removed from this thread and put in the other. The second rule is to be kind to the people posting in here. The third is to have fun. 🙂

@Denis Blanchard I think I have a job to work/explore more on the ratio. This time I tried 4 sec inh-1 sec pause- exhale 4-6 sec and 1 sec pause. I think I vary to much in my exhalation, but not sure of the effect. So far, I am just a noob and might have more to go on pain tolerance (mental game) as well.
