Mid October updates! 🎃
Greeting Grindstone creators. 👋 A few things to share... 1) @Houston Bernard and @Gemma Ferguson won some banger prizes for in the Grindstone Games last month! $100 cash and a gift card to a favorite restaurant. 🎁 It really pays to stay active in here. 2) My 100 uploads in 100 days is going well. My eyes were bigger than my stomach. Writing is quite easy for me since I've been doing it for years and I can do it anywhere. But recording audio and video is a totally different story, as you all know. I just refreshed my working calendar to make everything 10x easier. 3) I just moved to Thailand. Kindest people I ever met. Amazing food. Affordable. But man, this time zone difference is really testing me. ••• Expect fun things to be released this week! 🤗 And if you haven't done so yet...***give me access to your Master Tracker if you're in the luxury coaching program!! Happy creating this week. See you soon. ✌️

How long are you in Thailand? How does it compare to the other places you've lived so far?
Thumbnails
I was very bummed to click through to thumbnail experts and hear "I used to spend many hours editing videos and 10 minutes on thumbnails, and now I spend lots of time on thumbnails." That lipstick seems to be very important, and I am not sure I have ANY expertise or feel after watching about 1.5 hours of YT videos on it this morning about what makes good thumbnails. Any thoughts?

Thumbnails are 50-60% of why your video gets clicked on. When a viewer is given 8+ options and yours doesn't stand out to them, there's no reason to pick it over the others. Look at what others in your niche do and try to figure out why people click on their thumbnails. Is it the subject matter? Is it incredibly over-exaggerated, the color palette, or the composition? There's a reason a lot of people outsource thumbnails or spend hours upon hours getting really good at identifying what people click on. It's a fine art when you're just another person in the suggested feed
Writing Win
Consuming more content in the same general niche that I'm looking to crack into has helped me a lot with the writing/pacing of things (as well as feedback here!). A good foundation makes good content and I'm happy to say I feel like my writing has tightened up a lot for my next big project. I'm trimming fat from a lot of my writing and trying to convey my points as concisely and time efficiently as possible and reading it back I feel like I can notice the difference already.

A Win
I just wanted to share my win for this week. Colby and I were going over my analytics for youtube and I had 20% more views than the previous month and 38% more watch time. Im also up 100 new followers since I started to 2817. Im just getting started and I know I have a long way to go for my goal, but it is nice to see the work paying off. Good luck everyone!

Love to hear this, keep at it!
YouTube video feedback
Hey everyone, my latest video is up and I'd love feedback on it. Anything from sound design to visuals to level of coherency, hit me with it. Even if the topic isn't in your niche specifically I enjoy the constructive criticism about the quality of the video. Also, please don't feel the pressure to watch more than a small segment. Lol. https://youtu.be/npHqIWsCyz4?si=N8kNHs1FosVMf-Er

@Wyatt Watson I see what you mean, I worked with an editor for this intro and I think what I was trying to do narratively is really lost in how it's executed which is a shame. I can already see a lot of fat I would likely cut out but at the same time, it's hard for me not to follow a format that covers every detail of the topic I'm talking about. I have a format which I want to release smaller videos in addition to longer ones but yeah, 6 months of off an on work after having my first kid. Definitely more time than I'd like between videos which is why I have a different format going forward in addition to to supplementing these with smaller videos in between. Definitely not taking your feedback as negative, I do think that the biggest difference is I'm not really trying to play the youtube game with a video like this. It's a passion project and of course, there's a lot I can learn to get better and make them successful, but chopping it into a series or taking it in a different creative direction would ruin the point of it. There was already a lot of issues with this one in particular but I just wanted to finish it lol. The more I watch the intro the less I like it which is my biggest takeaway so far which really sucks lol and yes somewhat like that but videos like this were my direct inspiration (instead of apples to oranges) https://youtu.be/51o5J0XVGoc?si=9rTHmmOk3LVYeHLs

@Wyatt Watson yeah I get it, I think I went too experimental with some of the stuff but I think it would work with the right audience. Maybe in a month I'll be revisiting it with better stats. That said I definitely learned a lot, always helps to have an outside objective view
