Why Guitar?
Hi all. I’m always interested in other folks story and inspiration and motivation. So my question to everyone is why did you pick up a guitar? What inspired you to say - “I want to do this…” For me, though I’ve always loved music, what inspired me to try my hand at the six-string was binge watching the Beatles documentary ‘Get Back.’ Just watching the creative process of random chords being crafted into chord progressions and eventually phenomenal songs had me in awe. I remember thinking - ‘man, I wish I could do that.’ Then I thought, why not? While I’ll never have Fab-4 success, I can certainly get some personal enjoyment. Shortly after that I signed up for music lessons at a local music store, bought a mahogany 000-Bristol guitar, and started building calluses while trying to keep time. How about y’all?

My family is not musical. Some of us took piano lessons but nothing stuck for any of us. We all did sports and then music lessons all fell by the wayside. I've always enjoyed listening to music and was fascinated by people that could play an instrument. I have 2 kids now and my oldest showed an interest in wanting to take guitar lessons a few years ago so I asked friends for recommendations, Allie was at the top of everyone's lists so I signed my son up for lessons. I did not want him to quit lessons so at the beginning I would sit in on his & Allie's lessons so I knew what was being taught so I could help and encourage his practices at home. He loved his lessons with Allie and learned so much. She is so good at picking songs that interested him. As a young tween he was going through some things so even though I did the best I could - his desire to work started dwindling- he wanted to practice on his own... then only put in the minimum effort into learning and practicing, and eventually stopped trying. So after a lot of talk we decided for him to take a break and stop official lessons. I admire Allie and enjoy her teaching style and personality that I asked if she could teach me. A stay at home mom in her 40s that hasn't done a lot for myself thought it was time I did what I wanted to do. I do it for myself but I also love that my kids get to see me work at learning new skills, taking lessons because I WANT to learn something, and to show them the joy that music brings in a home. I truly love my guitar lessons with Allie. I am a slow learner and get nervous to perform but in the comfort of my home I feel joy and peace hearing music come from movements of my hands. And just the past couple weeks Allie gave me a duet song and suggested maybe I ask my son to - just for fun - play this duet with me. He agreed and we sit side by side each with our own guitars playing music together. 💙
Favorite Book?
Do y’all have a book you would recommend? I recommend “the talent code” for all of my students, but I also read “to kill a mockingbird” every year around this time.

@Bob Crandall Jonathan Livingston Seagull is my dad's favorite book. He's read that to me many times. 😀

Hi I'm Anna. I live in the beautiful Logan, Utah. My family moved here to Utah from Missouri when I was a teenager. I love the outdoors - mountain biking, skiing, and hiking. I just started guitar lessons 3 weeks ago. So everything is brand new. I saw my kids take music lessons and didn't like that they were having all the fun learning an instrument so I started up. I'm working on memorizing chords, getting my fingers to stretch to those chords, and making what I play sound smooth. I'm learning "Wagon Wheel" right now.
