Footwork practice = progress
before I wear my skates🛼, I dance practice in socks to strengthen my balance.(yep, I 4 count & 8 count) That helps ease those Bambi legs in skates.🙃

I always do the new moves in socks first. It helps a lot! Also what helped me e.g. In forward drip move was dreaming about performing it perfectly 😂 however I am very far from it yet, but still, a little bit closer than my very first try. 😄🍀

@Janine McCarthy I can feel you! Crossing is absolutely a thing I needed to re-learn in socks first 😂 it seemed so easy but my first try on skates was so messed up I was standing there and thinking “wow wth is happening here” so I really started to focus on it in socks and shoes first. Crazy! On a workshop the teacher told me its a basic move and I felt very bad about it 😂 later my artistic skate teacher told the opposite: it isn’t easy, it is not for absolute beginners and takes time & practice.
Do you post your skating in intstagram?!
I’d love to start a conversation about the pros and cons and also get other members IG handles so we can hype each other up

Reading these comments make me think about start posting my skating. However my videos are not “suitable for insta” for several reasons. First, I have my messy room in the background 😂 the other reason is personal: I’m just not good enough. Yes, I am a beginner, and absolutely not a (skate) dancer. I usually do pivot and balance practices. Previously I posted my first ride on a street at night, which seemed bad but cute, and since then nearly nothing at all. Does watching your own skating really help? If so, I will figure out some alternative platform for only myself to watch my videos and keep up my progression tracking.

@Chelsea Marin that sounds like a good idea! Where I live there’s not many skaters but they are advanced, and I never joined them in parks. So basically never had the chance to get some advice. I only participare in classes, where I rarely get specific feedback (and my teacher never make videos). So I’m totally down for it; already looking for a basic setup to record my skating.
Skate Class Win
Today I started a 6-week series of skate classes. I've taken some drop-in skate classes that teach the basics, so I'm looking forward to expanding those basics. And here's my win: the instructor asked what I was looking to get out of this class since I'm a little more advanced than most of the other students. More advanced! I'm more advanced, y'all!🔥I'm still a beginner of course, but it feels so good to get that acknowledgement of progress.

That must’ve felt great 😍 On my latest class my teacher told me something similar: “you are not a beginner anymore” and uuuh man that cheered me up lol. (I still consider myself a beginner anyway.)
Heel manual tips?
Hi all, I’m a beginner and was wondering if anybody else has a hard time with heel manual. I’m doing a nice progress with toe manual but heels got me… can’t say I can hold it and feels very unstable, usually hit the floor in 1-2 seconds, and my legs are shaking a bit. I’m doing it in scissors for now, with bent legs, my weight is in the center. Is it a good start, or am I doing something wrong?

What do you wear!?
Curious.... what kind of skates everyone has!? I just got into skating a few months ago and got a pair of Roller Derby skates at our local sporting goods shop. I didn't want to spend alot on starter skates because I have a habit of deciding to learn something new and not following through. I fell in love. Upgraded to Sure--Grip Fame wheels and now am impatiently waiting for my size to come back in-stock of the VNLA Luna skates.

@Khara Plicanic right? 😄 Initially I was thinking in artistic skates, but this was love at first sight. 😍

@Knejie Allen I love them too, costs a lot but no regrets at all 😍 When I put them on first time I was sooo shocked by its stability and flexibility! At that moment I understood how people are able to do such nice moves on skates 😄 I only regret the amount of money and time I spent with my Oxelo. 2,5 months, 0 progress after the 1st month, not even with new wheels, bearings and some truck adjustments. 👎🏻
