Help! Looking for new skates. Again 😅
I got this bad habit of whenever I plateau I think its something wrong with my current skate setup. And I've only been skating for a year 😅 This time feels different though. At first I really liked groundwork but now whenever I see either @Adontis Atkins or @Knejie Allen doing those crazy pivots, snaps, spins and other unique footwork I just know in my soul gotta do that. Very inspired to say the least. Lets talk equipment! Right now I'm rocking low-top, VNLA freestyle pros because they were so comfy and the ankle mobility is insane. The trade off for that ankle mobility it that there isn't as much stability for spins and such. Another factor with low tops is that most of the weight is on the heel compared to a high top where the weight is 50/50 heel and toes. If you've been practicing one foot pivots or toe manuals you'll know how much effort it takes to stay on those toes. That effort is a lot more with low tops because of the weight distribution I was talking about. Not to mention the plates of high tops have thier cushions at an angle to help with doing manuals. All that to ask; What high top skates/trucks would you recommend??? I've heard great things about Riedells like the 3200s but still am not too knowledgeable about other options. For plates the Powerdyne Arius is the hype right now or the classic kings Roll-line. I'd love to hear everybodies experiences in finding the skates that worked for them and their skating goals as well! Keep on rolling yall! 🔥🔥🔥

I am trying to figure out exactly what my ideal Skate set up is as well. Currently I skate in a vintage riedell 220. Boot on a pilot falcon plate, but spinning and pivots are also my reason for wanting a stiffer boot with a higher heel. I have large feet too, so I feel like the heel would make them shorter and easier to execute footwork.. I tried on a friend’s Von Merlin boots and I immediately felt more control on my edges, but they are so ugly🤣🤣 I would like to try on the 3200 and I’m also curious about the 975. I’ve also seen a few people recently get the new Edea flamenco boot and it looks really good. Wifa is also on my mind. I tried on a pair of my friends and they were very comfortable and supportive., but some thing about them made me feel like the craftsmanship wasn’t there. But I’ve only skated in vintage boots and the quality back then is just so much better usually.

@Toi MissToi I don’t think I could ever give them up! They are so comfy. I think about getting a stiffer boot d as nd then try them and they are so uncomfortable 🤣🤣
Skate workouts
Do anyone workout or stretch? Do you find that it improve mobility and build strength for skating? I’m looking into including this into my routine.

It’s just so boring compared to skating. I’ve been working on strength routines that I can do on skates. So much more fun
What techniques are you working on?
Currently, I'm working on Manual variations and Pivots. Manuals - I can perform a Manual and Toe Manuals. Now I am trying to switch with Toe Manuals. This has been pretty difficult for me to get. I think my issue is comfortably and consistently shifting my weight. Pivot - This has been a process. Biggest issue switching from back to front. Especially when turning right. Any tips? What are you working on? What has been hard for you?

Always working on spins, I know I should be working on pivots and I did this evening but it’s not what I gravitate to. Although I know I need to dial in my precision and not be so floppy, so I make myself do it. Just took a NY/NJ workshop so trying to understand the rhythm and cadence of the base step and then I’ll be adding in those pivots. I slso want to start putting together combos. I usually just freestyle do this will be a good way to get out of my comfort zone.
Skate Rinks
Now that I’ve retired from the military, I’m ready to travel to various skating rinks in the US. Please list the city, state and name of your favorite skating rink. Example: Nashville, TN — Rivergate Skate Center Thank you ☺️

Do you post your skating in intstagram?!
I’d love to start a conversation about the pros and cons and also get other members IG handles so we can hype each other up

same here! Watching my own video side by side with the goal videos from other more skilled skaters helps me find the “one of these things is not like the other” points to address and most skaters are super friendly and will offer advice and feedback. When I am struggling with some thing, there are a few people that I can send a video to for critique and guidance. Seeing the progress is motivating too!

@Aliz Gordos this can be the platform for it! Maybe we could start some diffferent threads for the things that folks are working on. Like if there is one for pivots and we all posted videos of pivots, it would be great to see them all side-by-side like that. It really doesn’t matter what level you are at your work will help somebody else.
