Hey Hey Hey
Hi Everyone. I'm AJ, strong background in marketing automation pre-AI (think email marketing, lead flow management, programatic split testing and conversion rate optimization). Used to use Zapier, then Integromat/Make, to stitch apps and workflows together and now obviously using it to build systems to take over the world....mwahahahaha Well, in reality to automate things so I can grow my own sales coaching business without much of a team, and in parallel grow a Marketing Automation company that delivers exponential returns to clients. Not played with n8n yet but about to move house so it's on the list for December lol. If anyone gets stuck, or has fear/mindset issues, around sales please feel free to post a question and tag me. I help out with sales Q&A in another group, happy to do the same here.

@Philip Mudhir Yeah, the splitting testing thing really is free money effectively. And I am always surprised how few people or companies ever do it. With a js file, some traffic and a little bit of patience you can double the effectiveness of a campaign, but people think it's too complicated and so never start.

@Mehmood Memon sorry I missed your comment! Please do post your questions, I can guarantee there are a host of other people with the same concerns but perhaps not brave enough (yet) to step forward and share. But while we're here did you notice your language pattern in the statement: "I struggle with fear/mindset issues and never able to position myself as an authority." For the record you can't position yourself as an authority. The perception of, or label, Authority is something that is bestowed up on us by other people. So you can cross that off your list for a start šŸ¤£ It is also a relative construct. Do you know more about Agents, AI Automation and how to help your prospective client than they do? If you do well technically you already have enough authority. Fear and mindset issues are interesting because you cannot put them in a bucket -- ergo in the physical world they're not real, they are things you have constructed in your head. Thought is arguably the most powerful force in the Universe but we're not here for a discussion on Metaphysics. What you can do right now is recognise that Fear is an emotion, emotions are an internal response to your thinking. You can embrace the feeling (fuck, this feels scary and I am not really sure but I'll give it a go anyway), you can disarm the feeling (huh, I have been experiencing the emotion of fear, but I am not my feelings, I am the person experiencing the feeling of fear. Which is interesting because that means I am not fearful, just caught in the temporary trap of thinking the fear is real....) or you can just let your work speak for itself. Hey Mr/Mrs Prospective Buyer, you've said you're grappling with issue ABC, can I show you this potential solution called XYZ, if you watch how this scenario works you'll see it can give you the solution to your problem, would you like to know more about how it works, and how I can install this for you? Etc, etc. Hope that helps!

Sales Calls are GOLD
.. even when you donā€™t get the deal. Hereā€™s why.. No matter the outcome (and you should be detaching yourself as much as possible from the outcome.. nobody likes the taste of desperate).. You get buckets of value from these calls.. What challenges were killing their productivity? What language did they use when talking about these areas of their business? Which team was overburdened? What tech did they have in place? Why wasnā€™t the current scenario working for them? What was it costing them doing it this way? How does that compare to your offer? What metrics were discussed? What are they trying to measure? all this information is pure GOLD and should be tracked and used in your outreachā€¦ These prospects are telling you ā€œwhat irritates them, what ruins their day, what costs them money and in their languageā€ this is pure gold for you and your messaging.. use it wisely šŸ˜‰

I am also always curious how else they've tried to solve the problem. I have found this is a great way to uncover other keywords, terms and places my audience goes looking for a solution (and ultimately one that doesn't work for them). Few people seem to be able to work backwards from the symptom they are experiencing to the root cause issue. They will google for the fix to the symptom but be completely oblivious to what's really going on, so knowing what symptoms they're trying to solve also gives us a content plan on what to talk about to attract those people into our ecosystem.
The only metrics that matter
Ignore the Vanity metrics like open rate.. Why? Ok im guilty of this...as you can see.. Am I still doing this? Kinda.. the answer is hazy because some campaigns yes.. some no.. The ones I am doing for? New campaigns to "test" what subject lines are working.. The ones I'm not? Any campaign over 1-2 weeks old.. If you have 2-3 emails in each step per sequence in Instantly.. you should be able to dial into what is getting opened VERY quickly.. So why turn it off? Apple, Google and Outlook.. All of them (even more so apple and google) have taken steps over the years and are fully capable of detecting the tracking pixel that is used to know if its been opened. This can impact your deliverability by up to 4-6% (sometimes higher), and give you false readings for open rate because Apple opens the email before it ever lands in the inbox to check the email and google does something similar.. It will also burn your domains faster as you will get more emails marked as "risky" or "spam".. SO be careful when using tracking metrics.. it can still be used VERY lightly as a indicator, but don't fully trust it.. The real metrics that matter are Reply Rate and Opportunities.. If your reply rate is good but your opportunity volume sucks, then your offer is the problem (for that person & niche).. If your reply to opportunity rate is good, but the volume is very low, your subject and intro is likely to be the problem... If your reply and opportunity rate is terrible (sub 0.5%) its your messaging overall that needs dialling in OR your niche isnt responding to your messaging.. A/B test everything at every step.. never have 1 email in a step until you have over 1% OPPORTUNITY RESPOSE rate..

Love the analysis on how to judge an effective cold email campaign by stats. Few people seem to recognise that all marketing is testing, we're testing the message, the channel, the target audience, not just the offer. I have some new domains being warmed up and looking forward to scaling cold email up in January.
