Healing is Letting the Worst Version of Ourselves be Loved
This beautiful and thoughtful video from my friend Britt Lefkoe came across my feed today. It's a potent reminder that I need to keep top of mind; it's so easy to fall back into the belief that we're only lovable when appear 'Perfect', and that our 'messy selves' won't ever be included or accepted. That's just not true, and learning to accept all versions of ourselves is vitally necessary as we grow into our up-leveled Being. Here's to loving the Messy versions of ourselves!

@Merridy Smits many years ago. I had a therapist tell me, Jolene you need to be messy! “They” think you take care of things all the time, and they don’t have to, because you’ve got it all together. It’s OK to put things back to them - be messy. The key point we’ve heard this week is, all of that “together” function comes at a cost. If you aren’t messy, “they” think it’s free.

@Lisa Ann and @Donna Shellabarger me too! I feel like I’ve been working on declutterring my whole life….. and I still have so far to go! Here’s to micro actions in 2025, that continue to move us forward!!
A spanner in the 'side'
My title was going to be, 'a spanner in the works'. You know that phrase where things don't go according to plan?? We arrived in Australia early last week to spend Christmas here with the kids, and my Dad and his partner. On Tuesday when I arrived I noticed a slight pain in the LH side of my abdomen. By Friday morning it hadn't gone away and the pain had kept me up for a few hours in the night. I trusted my gut that this was something I needed to investigate before the weekend and before Xmas. It isn't ideal as we are away from home, our company health insurance doesn't cover spouses while out of the country etc, but I trusted my body and just booked my appointment, did some research and figured out our travel insurance should cover some of it. Long story short, I thought maybe it was a UTI, but the doctor was like, Nope. And then said, ooh, it is very tender. You need an urgent CT scan and ultrasound. My mind started to race. What if I need surgery, (gall bladder, appendicitis) how will that happen? How much will that cost? Christmas will be ruined. Then I calmed my brain, repeated "My body is healthy and strong" and remembered just to take things as they come. Headed upstairs and discovered the CT scan was one with a dye contrast. Slightly freaky but it was okay, I did it no problem. Had an ultrasound as well just to check ovaries etc. Turns out, I had an attack of diverticulitis. Inflammation/infection in the bowel. So the treatment is antibiotics and then a diet of liquid or very low fibre food to give the intestines a break. Kinda tricky when you are on holiday and heading into a season of yummy food etc, but at least I wasn't having to go have surgery. What have I learned or noticed through this experience? 1. I can trust my body to tell me when something isn't 'right' or going to go away. 2. I have had "get a colonoscopy' on my list to do, for the last 5 years and haven't done it. Now I have to get one done when I get back to Hong Kong. Thank you universe. 3. I felt almost betrayed by the list of reasons why people get this. They said it was most common in people who don't exercise, eat way too much red meat, who smoke, drink, don't get enough Vitamin D and weirdly, Advil. I do take Advil from time to time. I feel like I am 'not' most of those other things. My brain said, "Hold on, I am pretty healthy, why would I be getting this?" 4. How I can also stay grateful that it wasn't something worse or requiring surgery.

@Merridy Smits oh no! Traveling is the worst time to have health issues in my book. But health issues don’t wait for the most convenient time to pop up. Great job and taking care of yourself and getting to the doctor!! I’m glad it wasn’t something more serious. And, indeed, the plan will accommodate the important things, like taking care of your health. You’ve got this!! Merry Christmas!! 🎄

1% better okie dokie!
My alarm has been tripped by so many things that are concurrently happening in my life, but I have found a wonderful way to add silliness to my housework. Two separate things stumbled across my desk and they both fit in so well with the cure. A lovely lumber Jane TikToker whose catch phrase is “okie-dokie” A meme pointing out that 1% better every day is 37% better in a year. Combining the two has created this lovely chant “1% better okie dokie!” That I say before attacking the thing - and repeat after while slamming the easy button. And then, if I’m feeling up for it - add another 1%… and so on and so on! Micro actions, prizing, and silliness. Thank you for these tools!

Why Empaths Over Give?
I was deeply moved my @Rick Daniels post "Diving Deeper", and then a few minutes later THIS came across my feed. I can really relate to what the influencer explains in just a few minutes and it compels me to really tune into my boundaries and motivations again. Can you relate to being an Over Giver some of the time? (and here's a link to Rick's post, as well...) I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this topic; this goes to an important reason why it feels like some people just 'take and take from you' so much of the time...
