Once upon a time, there was a person named Jeffery. He wasn’t buried until he passed away when he lived til an old age of 80, but he was already dead around 22, when he graduated college.
This isn’t a new concept, but the majority still fall victim to it. The people I grew up with in high school are graduating college this year. I personally see the ‘cool kids’ who had a great social life in high school and college graduating. Most of them out of shape, the hot girls now having double chins, or rounding out. Most of them with limited goals and aspirations. (Shout out to the late bloomers who weren’t the ‘cool kids’ and are now absolute killers.) For this post by default, I categorize the ‘cool kids’ as the average Joe;
average job, average salary, average experiences, average aspirations, average wife, etc.. To some that’s just fine, average seems to be more but in all of that ‘averageness’ and the point of the quote is..
The majority of these people WILL NOT truly experience life to its fullest extent. They WILL NOT leave a legacy behind that will last for more than one generation. They WILL NOT go after their dreams as they said when they were a kid. “I want to be an astronaut, I want to be a doctor”. In reality they’re making 70k a year, and just a number to a company that doesn’t care about them. And that’s their fault. And if that’s the life they want to live that’s ok.
It’s easy for me to say this right now because I admit, I am in a similar position, but do not underestimate me as I am on a different path and mission. I’ve already helped young men on a micro level. I am an Eagle Scout. I was the senior patriot leader of my troop (kind of like the president, I was elected for that position by our members) I returned to my troop after many years because my brother recently was receiving his Eagle Scout as well (mama ain’t raise no bitch). 1 I wanted to be there to support him because that is important, 2 I was doing his Eagle charge (iykyk). But one thing I wasn’t expecting was for some of the young men to remember me..
I aged out in 2020. My brother just recently had his Eagle Ceremony, 2024. I haven’t been active with this troops since recently and to be greeted by two young guys who were in my troop since 2020 and still remembered me hit me hard. These dudes were looking up to me like when you would see a celebrity in real life. I get this in my YouTube comment section as well. Point being, on a micro level I have the responsibility to inspire others to be great. I am great myself. I will not be dead at 25, but instead I will be dead and buried at 100. I know this because I have many many events in my life that I took action on. Looking back on those events, I either built myself closer to the man I will be and or inspired someone / possibly changed the trajectory of their life for the better. And I will continue to take action to inspire.
What makes someone NOT dead at 25 and buried at 85/100?:
0. Always following the inner spark, ‘your north star’, what you really want in life. Not what your parents want.
- Taking risks, being adventurous
- Goal setting short term and long term and achieving them
- Optimizing growth in all endeavors
- Never stop learning. Albert Einstein said when you stop learning, you’re as good as dead
- Never settling. If it’s a car, if it’s a salary, if it’s a women
- Always tap into your curiosity. Your curiosity makes you unique
- Passion matters, purpose amplifies. Think of coal being put into a furnace. If you’re not passionate about your purpose or doing some other BS, then you’re doing something for someone else (similar to 0). Loser.
- Dreams will either be buried with you or become reality. DREAMS WILL NEVER GO AWAY. You will be haunted by them or rewarded and indulged by them when you achieve them
- Inspire others, leave a legacy more than just your family & community in one way or another. My professor last semester had this as his #1 mantra. Even though he may be stuck making less than 6 figures, he prioritized legacy
- This list keeps going on and on but I have you the basic functionality. Prioritize these so you’re otherwise you’re as good as soulless and will forfeit a spiritual death.
