Hello designers!
I presented my first two proposals to new clients and I think they came up a bit high (most likely it’s not true) and I am second and triple guessing how I am preparing and presenting those proposals. A little bit of back story, I started my business with a partner and now I am continuing on my own. In the 3 projects we had together for design last year we lost money for different reasons.
This time I wanted to build enough time so I can be profitable. In turn, my fees looked high. The prospects were surprised by the number, and I doubted myself all the way through. I am stressed about this, and in need of advice.
I have experience in the design and management of projects, all the technical stuff, but not about setting my fees, presenting, and backing up my “high fee” proposal to complete strangers.
There is also the thought of charging a lower fee/per hour for the next couple of projects, just to get money coming in.
Questions:
- What do you do during your proposals process?
- How do you vet your estimation of hours when you don’t have data to back it up?
- What do you include in your proposal?
- How do you communicate your value?
- Do you have any advice?
Thank you!!
Maria
