3d Renderings --> Install Day 🥳
Happy Friday everyone! I wanted to share my most recent project I completed for a client. I thought it would be fun to show you the design concepts + 3d rendering and then compare that to the actual real life design! This shows just how powerful 3d renderings are to convey the overall design to a client- ensuring they're confident in your ideas and what the finished space will look/feel like. Are you utilizing 3d renderings as a tool for your design business?! Why or why not? *These are quick photos I snapped on my phone during install day, but a professional image would look lovely compared to the 3d rendering!

Very nice! Congratulations! I use 3D designs for my projects too. Here are some pictures I have handy (none are the finals). And I still need to get the professional pictures taken.

Client Project Handoff Binder
Hello! I hope everyone is doing well. @Emilee Neubert I am closing out a project and would like to know if you have a client binder template available or a sample (I searched in the bar). Or if anyone is willing to share for reference. Thanks!!

Proposals
Hello designers! I presented my first two proposals to new clients and I think they came up a bit high (most likely it’s not true) and I am second and triple guessing how I am preparing and presenting those proposals. A little bit of back story, I started my business with a partner and now I am continuing on my own. In the 3 projects we had together for design last year we lost money for different reasons. This time I wanted to build enough time so I can be profitable. In turn, my fees looked high. The prospects were surprised by the number, and I doubted myself all the way through. I am stressed about this, and in need of advice. I have experience in the design and management of projects, all the technical stuff, but not about setting my fees, presenting, and backing up my “high fee” proposal to complete strangers. There is also the thought of charging a lower fee/per hour for the next couple of projects, just to get money coming in. Questions: 1. What do you do during your proposals process? 2. How do you vet your estimation of hours when you don’t have data to back it up? 3. What do you include in your proposal? 4. How do you communicate your value? 5. Do you have any advice? Thank you!! Maria

Hi Emilee, Yes, I watched the Perfect Pricing Formula training, I am just missing the Vendor #3 and the mindset videos. I am working on the pricing worksheet, but from talking to other designers, I know I am priced competitively, I am doing the worksheet to verify where I am at and include other financial goals, I digress. My doubt goes more into estimating project time and final price with all the phases I have. I was thinking last night and started wondering if I can improve and streamline my process to simplify it? Or if it is what it is? If I could confirm I am accurate in my time/price estimate, then it would mean that I need to do better in selling the project, my confidence, and my proposal content. Trying to understand where I can improve. Thank you!!!
Autocad
If I want to dive deep into autocad where would I go to take classes?

Another option would be your local community college, or check if your county offers it as a community adult learning platform. Here is a link to the course in my county https://careertraining.ed2go.com/fcpsace/training-programs/autocad-basics/ and another course I found online https://www.nyiad.edu/courses/autocad/tuition that seems to have a good curriculum. When you consider the courses, I would recommend to pay close attention to the number of hours, access to the instructor, and the curriculum when comparing them, they are wide array of offerings. This book is excellent for Autocad for ID https://a.co/d/al4hnzt. All the best!
Programs to use
I am just starting out my business. How do you like to use designFiles and Sketchup together? Or do you prefer to only use one over the other?

Hi, I use Chief Architect for my plans, and it does 3Ds. You have a few rendering styles including photorealistic and vector like, I think watercolor and others
