I’d like to reference “A Meditation On: Overcoming Negative Thoughts” by Rey Himself.
It is an incredibly great read, and for those who have not gotten around to it yet, I figured it may help someone, for it helped me.
The basis is taken from “Humor”, the third chapter of the book. The point is simple— so simple that it is often overlooked. The reason why most of us struggle with attaining everlasting peace, is because we just take everything our minds narrate seriously. We act as if the thoughts that travels through our brains are Gospel that demands our belief in it. That’s when the “Devil” swoops in and takes our peace, like a thief. We take the bait every time.
Well, we can’t have that. We can’t give our divine power to such maliciousness anymore. So in the book, it explains how we can disarm the insistent thief of peace. We simply laugh it off, as if the “Devil” is just telling us a joke. Because it is a joke, it’s not anything special. It’s not a big deal. Moreover, it’s not real unless we DECIDE to believe it so. We look that creature in the face, and give it the biggest smile we can form. The more we laugh at the malicious lies being told to us, the more it loses its credibility. The more credibility it loses, the less weight it carries in our heads.
This book has a lot of gems, and I’m happy that I got it.
