Getting into HR
I’ll be honest—I barely even knew what HR was until I started my MBA program. Up until that point, my background was in medicine and operations, so I thought my career path was set. But during my MBA, I took a class on HR, and it completely shifted my perspective.
I realized that the aspects of leadership I loved most—improving policies, employee relations, mentorship, and training—were the core focuses of HR. That class really opened my eyes to what HR is all about and helped me understand the vital role it plays in business.
Understanding HR helped me not only become a better leader but also shifted my career trajectory from hospital administration to focusing more on human resources and people operations.
It’s funny how one class or experience can change your entire outlook, but I’m grateful for that shift. HR has become such an important part of what I do, and it’s all about helping people and businesses grow together.
For anyone not fully familiar with HR, I encourage you to dig deeper—it could end up transforming your approach to leadership like it did for me!
