Have You Watched The Dropout?
I finally watched The Dropout, and wow—it’s a must-watch for anyone in healthtech! Theranos’ rise and fall is a cautionary tale packed with lessons we can’t ignore. Here are my top takeaways: 💡 𝗗𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗲: Theranos claimed groundbreaking results before their tech was ready. In healthtech, overpromising isn’t just risky—it can harm patients. Always back your claims with solid data. 💡 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘀: Theranos lacked clinical professionals in leadership, leading to critical blind spots. In healthtech, clinical expertise isn’t optional—it’s essential. 💡 𝗣𝗶𝗹𝗼𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿: Skipping real-world validation cost Theranos everything. Pilot studies aren’t just a step—they’re a foundation. Build trust with small wins first. 💡 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀: Theranos rushed into major deals without a market-ready product. The lesson? 𝙑𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙙𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙛𝙞𝙧𝙨𝙩, 𝙨𝙘𝙖𝙡𝙚 𝙨𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙙. Big visions are great, but in healthtech, slow, steady, and validated progress is how you truly win. Have you watched The Dropout? What lessons did you take away? Let’s discuss below!

Introducing 24/7 SaaS
I'm Glenn, MD of Wysdom Dental Technologies a long-established business in the UK. As most will know, healthcare software in clinical settings is still largely desktop and one of the reasons for this is that clinics need uninterrupted access to their patient systems. If not working they can't operate. As part of the upgrading of our own Dental Practice Management System from legacy/desktop we have created, what appears to be, a unique system that runs our full software on an in-house-designed mini-cloud-server in the practice and then again in the cloud, but with synchronised data. This means they are not reliant on their Internet connection and are much more resilient to Cyber and Ransomware attacks as the chances of accessing our local server is much reduced even if the primary cloud service was attacked. Having our mini-cloud server onsite also means it's much easier to connect other local equipment to the system (X-ray for example) as we are on their network. So we have all the advantages of cloud but retaining the benefits of desktop. We call it SyncTech DualHybrid. We are looking for investment to help accelerate the business in general (the Covid effect has been a nightmare) and opportunities to exploit the underlying technology through partnerships with other healthcare software providers.
