Favorite Opening as Black?
There are many responses available for black to play in response to white's first move. Some Defenses require white's cooperation where as others can be played more systematically. I play the Caro-Kann from the black side of the pieces personally and try to get similar looking structures with the semi-slav vs. 1.d4

Favorite Opening as White?
What is your first strike over the chess board?! I prefer 1.e4 myself as it can lead to interesting lines such as the Evans Gambit, Scotch Gambit, Smith Morra Gambit, and other sharp lines! As a club player myself I find getting away from main line theory can give me the best chances both vs players above and below my rating.

Chess.com Pairing Tip
When playing on Chess.com you should use the custom feature to set your opponents rating range that you can face. I suggest -100 on the lower end and then +200 or greater on the higher end. This should funnel stronger opponents your way and help you play tougher games! (Within a reasonable range)

Instructive Games Study
I have been adding games to my personal Instructive Games Study on Lichess. https://lichess.org/study/tdAtThez We don't often see 1.c4 as Black (3% of games) even though it is the 3rd Most played opening move behind 1.e4 and 1.d4. Because of this our study time towards that opening can be limited especially as Club players. By replying with the Reverse-Morra (1...d5 2.cxd5 c6) we take white down a path that they are only seeing in 0.1% of their games if they are a 1.c4 player. Our singular sacrificed pawn has now taken our opponent completely out of their opening prep and has not even yielded them a significant computer calculated advantage (+0.6). In practical terms we have stolen the development advantage away from white and have made them play our game. Check out the 2 instructive games I have labeled in the study looking at the Reverse-Morra in order to have some ideas in mind when you next see 1.c4 over the board!
