ALERTπŸ”” 🚨: NAME CHANGE
Hey Everyone! Important News! I changed the name from "Energy Savvy Society" to "Energy Independence Academy" because, while complete energy awareness, process, and implementation are important, many people start their energy savings journey by being BOMBARDED with solar ads, many of which are full of lies! IM TIRED OF IT. The solar industry can improve and its partly the homeowners responsibility to be educated. So I augmented this community to act as a protection mechanism for homeowners across the country. This is a space for prospective solar buyers to come and determine whether its right for them, without any pressure from salespeople. Yes, many of us have knowledge of energy upgrades and systems outside of solar, but there are foundational pieces for new solar prospects to understand, such as: - Net metering policy in their area - Odd Utility rate structures like deregulated markets, Time of Use, etc and how that affects them - Whether they need battery backup - Roof Age/Condition - Best Financing Options and Terms - Equipment - Bill Offset And more.... As a bonus, I will personally be screen recording and reviewing BS solar ads and dissecting them! For members that would like to take their knowledge to the next level after they build a solid foundation around solar, I will be offering much more in depth courses in another community. Happy Learning!

Welcome! Please Introduce Yourself and Answer: Why is Energy Savviness Important to You?
As an 11-year veteran in home services, I've gotten the opportunity to help thousands of people address their energy needs, all with unique challenges and scenarios. After my 6-year career in the solar industry, I was dissatisfied. I found many elements I would do differently and decided to dive deep into building science and energy efficiency education, getting certified by the Building Performance Institute (BPI) for energy auditing and whole home energy upgrades. If more people knew what I know, they would be (almost) as convicted as I am to address the epidemic of wasteful energy practices and misguided solutions across the board AND: - Energy bills would be 30-50-100% lower - Everyone could effectively read their utility bill, pre- and post- solar - Utilities and solar companies couldn't scam homeowners as often - People would be less stressed and more confident about their energy usage - People would know exactly how to think about solar and when to apply it - Homes would be more comfortable, less, drafty, safer, and more durable - Appliances would last longer - The near future A.I calamity that's about to strike the electrical grid won't be as much of a shock to society - Homeowners would have a plan for battery and generator backup to protect their family in an outage - Homeowner's would have a plan to sell power to the grid at peak times (when that inevitable time comes) - Homeowners would have a plan to get as much funding from the government for whole-home energy upgrades as much as possible I could keep going but I won't..... So...... - The Energy Savvy Society was Born! Whether you are a hopeful or current homeowner, energy wizard, or other energy-related professional (which is just about everything), this community will help demystify the entire energy planning conversation. The purpose of this community is to empower intelligent energy planning for every homeowner with as little friction as possible. Welcome!

Fielding Questions
@Will Geist Asked whats a real life scenario of solar math not working out? There are many scenarios that can potentially lead to solar math not working out. - Shading not accounted for - The utility changing their net metering policy - The sales rep was dishonest/the design wasnt accurate - consumption not being accurate during system design without 12-months of usage Theres a few. Let me know what other questions there are!
