Thoughts on free vs a dollar?

We have gone from the top 8000 Skool to 94 in a few weeks. Although that is amazing there comes some challenges with that. Specifically spammers with a free group.

I want the Skool to be free but if it was a dollar my thought is most spammers aren't willing to pay that over and over again (I could be wrong) but I see that as a deterrent.

Have others had this same thought or tried a dollar vs free for this reason? Looking for opinions.
