Most community owners goal is to monetize a paid community, which is dope! But right now I want to focus on anyone who wants to create a free community to sell more of whatever they already sell.
I really think It's a no-brainer and want to give you my raw journey of 0 - 1,900+ members without a big following.
To put this 'no brainer' into perspective, if you had a marketing agency for gym owners. Why not host a free community and attract 100-1000+ gym owners (for free) collect their info and add to you email campaign's and SMS blast's, provide free trainings, maybe group calls? (all of this builds trust) and then upsell your exact same original service. You'd get more clients and build more authority.
Translate this into whatever it is that you do^^
So, It's early 2023, I'm stuck in a warehouse job, one year deep into 'after hours entrepreneurship' and struggling to sign my first client... frustrated and probably thinking I was a little better than I really was, lol.
I decide to burn the boats and go all in a few months later and towards the end of 2023, I create a Skool community. I didn't really know the direction I wanted to take it at the time, so I jumped off the cliff and hoped I'll be able to build a parachute before I hit the ground.
I brute forced my way to 100 members and traction picked up, organically here on Skool. This year I've scaled past 1,900 members (and no that doesn't include a lot of bots or fake accounts). Most of it has been organic growth on Skool, simply by being helpful.
From this I've managed to book 100+ sales calls with members who I've built trust and a great connection with who I had some answers for the roadblocks they we're facing in their business.
It's given me a little boost in my personal brand too.
I'm not against paid communities, most of my clients have them and in fact, maybe I'll end up with one myself.
It took a lot of trial, error, and learning, but here's what I discovered: the key to scaling your business is systems. Skools in-built auto DM is one of the strongest one's I've turned many auto DMs into booked calls and closed clients.
Hope these insights give someone the kick they needed to get started! God bless.
