Can We Charge Diff Amounts for Diff Courses Inside One Group?

OK...I'm still confused. We have to either charge upfront to be a member of an entire group, or we have to let people in for free, right? If we let people in for free, we can not charge for individual courses. Am I understanding this correctly? We can only "lock" courses based on membership levels, which we can manually override, or people have to earn through community participation. But if we are not charging upfront to be a part of our community then we don't have any other option/way to charge for individual courses. Is this correct?
