Here’s a revised version: My best advice is to start the process in grade 9. Begin by making a list of about 300 schools that might interest you, then research the schools and their coaches. The goal is to narrow this list down to your top 5–10 schools by grade 11, so you’re ready to start negotiations. Remember, this is a business for the coaches and schools; if they can save money on you, they can use it elsewhere. I’ve invited some friends to join this conversation to share best practices.
