Miami OH academic mega camp had a lot of schools attend.
What does recruiting do, functionally, for parents?
Been thinking a lot about this question. Most of the time, the parents I encounter don’t care if their kid goes to Alabama or not. What they do get very excited about is having something like a sport that gets their kid excited and interested and invested in their own college process vs. mom/dad hammering them to figure out where they want to go to school. Am I wrong here? My kids are small, college is a ways off, but, I can imagine, if my son loved football and it was something that got him to have better habits in school, do well in class, and got him invested in his future somewhat, that would be more than worth the effort of getting to practice/money and so on on my end, regardless of where he ended up at school. Thoughts?

My oldest was very dialed in on what he wanted to do from an academic standpoint. He did not go on DII visits because he viewed it as not getting him to where he wanted to be careerwise. Football was definetly a mechanism - at a showcase he talked to a DIII coach (Carnegie Mellon) who noted his ACT had to be better to get in to his school. He made sure his retake got him there because that was his first choice school. Being a football player allowed the coach to propose to admissions his total academic and athleic background. I have no doubt- being a football player helped differentiate him from others with similar academic backgrounds. He knew he wanted to play football and go to a high academic institution so he worked to achieve that goal.

He graduated a year ago. He was recruited by Coach Lackner and finished with Coach Larsen. He loved the school and playing for those two as well as their staff. I could not say enough about the opportunity and impact that school had on him.
Just went through the process
Brendan, I appreciate you putting this together. My son just went through the recruiting process and will be longsnapping at Brown as a freshman in the fall. If I can be a resource to anyone, please feel free to reach out. Anthony

@Brendan Cahill Great feedback! He did reach out to the coach and they reassured him he was invited as a result of his tape. He went to one yesterday (Brown) and the next step is camp. My next question - is there any advantage to attending one of the early camps ear

So as to be potentially identified before others at later camps?
