HW#1: Unfiltered feedback welcome 😊
Hey guys! Background: I have a podcast (and therapy practice) for ex-Jehovah's Witnesses and other former cult members, who have a very difficult time integrating into the world after leaving this cult. This is an extension of the podcast. PIMOs PIMIs POMIs etc are acronyms for variations on "physically in, mentally out" (in this example it means they are still attending church but have woken up mentally) The sign off works well on the podcast, but felt a bit cringy for me on video. Curious how it lands for you https://youtu.be/J31OdPKKuNY?si=eKZlDIMJSS3PD8Hw

@Michael Delima Thanks so much Michael! Yeah, I was a nervous and my pacing could use attention. And, ummm, you know, like uhhh you’re right about, you know, that part too 😂

@Rafael Tobon Escobar Thanks Rafael! That was actually a happy accident, but I’ll file that away as something to implement intentionally when I want to drive a point home

Here is my first carousel. I'll be honest, my message feels... a little fuzzy. I'm going to continue to refine and get closer to what I really want to convey, but it was a good exercise to learn canva and create some movement

HW2: Nobody Really Knows
I'd like to let you in on a little secret... Nobody REALLY knows what we are doing in this world You scroll through social media and see people who seemingly have it all together You see self proclaimed spiritual gurus, life coaches and therapists telling you they have the market cornered on what it means to live a good life You listen to preachers telling you why you are here, what happens after we die, what god wants of you, and all the terrible things that will happen if you don't do exactly what the preacher tells you. The cults and high control religions we were raised in taught us that there is only one truth, one way if being in the world. When we leave, while we may reject the teachings of that organization, we are still left with the idea that there is one truth that we must find. That someone else must surely have the answers. But here is the real truth: all anyone really knows for sure is that we have been thrown into this existence and as far as we can tell, we will be taken out of it at some point. Nobody can prove without a shadow of a doubt where we came from, why we are here, or where we will go after we die. Everyone on this earth is either operating on a truth that they have discovered for themselves, or one they have adopted from someone else who claims to know what the real truth is. Scary right! But once we can accept that no outside source can hand feed us the truth we are looking for, this is the beginning of us searching for that truth in the only place we can find it. Within ourselves No, this vehicle does not come with an instructional manual, but it does include an internal guidance system. How we feel If we pay close attention to our body, it will always let us know what is good for us and what is not If we are looking for peace If we are searching for meaning If we are longing for purpose This is where we will find it The problem with seeking absolute definitive one size fits all truth... Is that it doesn't exist. There is only what is true for you.

@August Coyote yeah, absolutely. I see people at all stages of the process and with varying degrees of religious trauma. Generally, I see that the extent of trauma is influenced by two things: 1) the degree of negative control and fear the organization has over the person (eg how much they isolate them from outside information, hell/armageddon ideas, guilt and shame, shunning etc) and 2) the level of family disfunction/abuse. This one is perhaps more important. I never encounter clients who say “my family was so healthy/loving/supportive but this religion really messed me up”

trouble with how to approach the day1 homework 🤔
@Nicolas Canon Thanks for today's session! I'm unsure how to approach the video homework. The only way I could do it is by talking about what I already do (the medicine work), which is also not productive, coz it's referral / word of mouth only. Where I'm at with business is that it's not started yet - I'm in the phase of exploration. I already talk about a lot of what I wanna help people with on my social - in the form of sharing my own experiences, reflections, and realizations. That has historically attracted people the most to me - me just doing my thing and speaking about it. Any suggestions you can offer of how to approach the homework, being where I'm at? Coz I don't wanna just skip it coz I don't have an established offering at the moment. or maybe any of you, guys, have any suggestions, please?
