Drumma drama.
Has anyone ever played a live show with a virtual drummer? I'm sick of dealing with the BS of having to tolerate bad habits (getting durnk after rehearsals) from my live drummer. Lately he's been threatening to quit the band. It will be extremely difficult to replace him with another (probably flawed) personality so I'm just gonna make a new drummer with samples that I will also make of live drums. That will be my new pet project for the spring. It will be a long and tedious journey. Roughly 5 albums of material already written and 2 of them already copyrighted and a 3rd well on its way to being done. My new drummer's name is Chip. He will never miss a beat. He'll always be on time. He'll never miss rehearsals. He doesn't drink or do drugs. He listens very well. And if I want his opinion, I'll give him one.

I have had a long history with drummers with bad attitudes. I am very lucky to now have a very humble and very sober drummer. Personally, I feel that there is a certain degree of energy that is lost when a live drummer is not present. Although we live in a digital age, people are not normally convinced of an authentic performance from programmed drums live. IF I were to do programmed drums live, I would be sure that all my samples were dry and set through a multichannel device of somekind. So that FOH still gets kick, snare, hh, etc. I work in live sound and ill have bands give me their drum track through a cell phone and its always bad haha I hope some of this was insightful for you!
What is the best way to get into Logic?
Hey all, Ive been producing/mixing/mastering on Ableton for almost 10 years. I own Logic and have noticed a lot about it that I prefer. But changing my workflow from Ableton to Logic is like pushing a boulder up a hill. What's the best resource out there to help with getting a good workflow with logic?

Ableton audio quality loss when printing and resampling/ be aware
Guys I logged in to share this since its important. Maybe tell your Ableton friends to help out. Any other ableton users out there? I have been experiencing audio quality loss when I render or resample stems, but since Ableton users love their DAW, and you really can't argue with them on forums, since this DAW has some cool other features, I agree, yes. But I get audio quality loss if I render, or resample (like bounce in place in logic) . and if 80percent of your project contains audio, good luck with the quality. And I tested this. I am finally certain of it now. be aware. . I was not gonna notice this, cause difference is not audible at all when you look at individual stems. but for ex when you lower from 300 stems to 50 stems by resampling ( bouncing in place or rendering) I can certainly say you ll get at least 20/30 percent audio quality loss.. to me its a big deal and I will have to get to the bottom of it. I love this community and anytime I got good useful info I share with you guys first. I found some info, some users saying they tested and ' in order to avoid this quality loss I have to render at 32bit on ableton and that s the only time audio will sound close to Logic's 24bit renders. SO I will try this and update this post.

Do you think it could be an over sampling issue? If there are plugins on said channel that get printed with over sampling off, that could give a lesser audio quality? Just a thought.

@Berlin RedluX I have also noticed that when you print in Ableton, it prints to stereo, no matter what. An annoying issue I wish they would fix. In theory, this stereo file should be "mono" as left and right should be the same signal. But perhaps when this happens there are phasing issues because of an effect or something to that nature. Just triple check that your tracks are mono compatible before printing or like @Martial Foucault was saying, check the phasing. Hope this helps!
What's the greatest lesson you've learned in production?
Just thought it'd be cool to hear either the most helpful thing you've learned about/in music production, or the best advice you'd give to a new producer that you wish you knew at the start. 🙂

Honestly, the most useful tool I have come across is gain staging. It seems that nothing else really matter is your gain structure is all 🤪. George Lever from URM Academy has an amazing video on gain staging that changed the way I do mixing and production forever.

@Yehudi Matthew no way! I'll go check that out asap. Thanks man!
Vocal Recording Setup Start to Finish with Josh West
In this video, Josh West takes us through the entire process of setting up mics for a vocal recording session, from selecting the mics to patching and routing. Before watching this I never understood why I always hang my mic upside down. It's just something I always did because it just seemed right. Now I get it! So simple too. Enjoy!
