Brave Habits - thoughts while running
The name of this group didn’t come from nowhere. It runs deep in my lore! But I just went for a run and it gave me the ideas for Brave Habits. I’ve always run and tried to keep a habit of it but always “I’m moderation.” Like, running more than 10k just didn’t feel necessary. Then about 6 months ago I pushed past 10k to 8 miles and thought, why not just do a half-marathon? Then I rolled my ankle. I was out for months. And got out of shape so much that even as I got back into the game, running scared me. I didn’t want to get even farther behind than I was by risking another injury. (That was the 3rd time I rolled my ankle in a 6 month period.) So today, I’m not just starting my running habit again, I’m being brave again. Thoughts while running led to a whole monologue of insight about one of my life mottos, “everything in moderation, including moderation.” But when does that become a form of actually holding yourself back? If it holds you back from too much “bad” does it not also hold you back from too much “good”??

I completely agree. Moderation with consistency is how I achieved all my running success through the years. I remember being so nervous running that first 5K. Then used the same formula to build confidence, along with fitness, to then run a 10K, half, full, and beyond in about a year. Each new distance was terrifying but leaning into the moderate training I was able to level up. I didn't think of it as Brave Habits, but that's exactly what it was. Even though I'm able to do extreme distances now it still feels moderate because Brave Habits redefined normal. I'm hoping to apply this same to speaking because it terrifies to me 😨. But I know I've joined the right community and of course Ambra is the absolute best!
