Drone Photography
Anyone here have experience working with drones? An old classmate of mine used one to light portraits on a beach at night which I thought was pretty cool. I’ve only ever flown a drone once and promptly lost it as soon as it took off.

@Joey Darwish Yeah the Vanderbilt Breakers in Newport. Newport has the largest concentration of antique houses in the country also. All time Favorite place.
Archiving
How do you guys back up your work? Most photographers I talk to say best practice is 3x copies, with one of them offsite (like in cloud storage). I have like 2.5 sitting on my desk 😅

@Derrick Wansom youtube is my goto for a lot of things. I found several that talk about backblaze both good and bad.
I do support storage area network environment components for my day job. I can answer some questions about raid, jbods,HBAs, raid controllers. I am looking for affordable storage solutions myself, not to be confused with with backup.
Have lenses become too sharp?
This past year doing portraits, most clients usually say omg it’s so “clear” or sharp; is that what I look like? You can see everything, can you make it less sharp? I’m wondering have we gone beyond a reasonable amount of sharpness? What mpx count is enough for most photographers as well? I’ve recently acquired a few older lenses for their “character” to help balance this out? Is this a good idea or just rely on editing software?

Try sandwiching a piece black net between to adapter rings. The pictures are 3 that I’ve used. I used the one by itself most often. Soft without anything else.

Actually, I wouldn’t even call it soft, just smooth.
Getting Started
Excited to see everyone joining! This group right now is compiled pretty much entirely from people I’ve spoken to or worked with. I’m working on recording the tutorials for the beginner classes this week. But I’d be the first to tell ya, I’m far from the most knowledgeable photog here. That said, I think we all have differing skill sets. Together, I believe we can make each other better, richer, photographers and creators. Tell us about a personal project you’re working on now? Where are you struggling? Where do you want your work to be seen or published?

I am still working on B&W Dirty Sixth. Main problem is photo enhancement, with Photoshop and Lightroom. This is just something I have to work out on my own. It bores me. The pictures, I would like to see featured in a Magazine article or part of a collection of what will become a thing of the past.
Residencies
Are ya’ll interested in residencies? I’ve just been accepted into a residency for next spring in Finland. I was thinking of adding a class covering my workflow for how I apply to these kinds of opportunities. This would be more on the advanced side since it requires that you already have a body of work. But is that something that interests you guys?
