What are your goals for this week?
Setting goals for writing music is important. Personally, I set a goal to write a song every week. I have done that 45 times over this year, so far. I have done this by setting aside at least an hour for writing music. If I can do that, I know that I'm going to, at the very least, get something written. Will it be perfect? Probably not. Will it be something that I created, something that I made? Absolutely. Will it drive me to create more? I'm sure it will. If you're working to write more music, the best way to get started is to do it. That sounds super simple, but it's more than true. If you think you don't have the skill, you probably do! The important part is allowing yourself to write, experiment, and have some fun. What are your goals for this week in your music?

My goal this week will be to take my 50 songs and develop a working copy of my 72 minute live show which will only have room 36 minutes of music (so with breaks and ad libing perhaps only 30 minutes max). I will have to not includes songs which will be hard but will be a great learning experience to create a song list that matches a theme. One song still has to be written but that will be created at the right time. It will be called 'Obituary' so I am in idea mode right now but who knows it could be written tonight. Song writing is a great journey I just can't control the timing.

@Brian Botkiller Thanks. Starting to meet people and pick their brain on what 'take aways' they would want to see if they attended the event.
Kinda stupid, but...
If you delete some of the snark and the incredibly stupid meme image from this, it's pretty true. You should just produce music instead of thinking about it. You don't HAVE too know what to do at each stage of the song creation process, but, once you build a system for yourself, you'll be able to do it quickly. Writer's block isn't a thing if you just allow yourself to write instead of focusing on, "Is this good enough for others?". You certainly CAN be prolific ;) Quantity doesn't exactly lead to quality, but doing and then doing again and again leads to finding your own system that lets you create more often. Flow states are a thing for sure, when you sit down to write more frequently, you'll find yourself in them quickly. Do you agree with anything I've said, here?

@Brian Botkiller ask me to write lyrics for a song right now and I can't. If I go get a cup of coffee later I need to have my phone on me so I can record the lyrics that come to my mind as I pour the cup of coffee. My song writing process is called 'I really don't know when the lyrics will hit me but when they do it is magic'.

Great work @Brian Botkiller I'd suggest to consider a strategy of a progressive membership increase and you will find the membership 'sweetspot' and don't be afraid to offer 'one'-time' paid offers within our paid membership as well!

Allow yourself to write music!
I'm happy to say that I've written 44 songs this year! I will be finishing this year with 52 new songs in my catalog. It's important to note that you do not HAVE to write a song every week to be a part of this course. But, if you've been struggling with writing and releasing music, I cannot stress enough that you should ALLOW yourself to write music. A lot of us spend entirely too much time telling ourselves we don't deserve something unless we meet other markers in our everyday; we can't play video games if we didn't work enough. We can't have pizza if we didn't run two miles. The list goes on. It's great to set goals for yourself, and these can help to motivate you. But, it's also important to tell yourself, "I'm allowed to sit down and spend some time making music. I doesn't have to be music that makes money. It doesn't have to have pop appeal. I'm making music because I LOVE it". When you allow yourself to make music, you care for yourself, and you'll care for others in your life even more. Your homework; give yourself 15 minutes to sit down and, even if you don't play an instrument, or create a new song, simply think about what you'd like to write, or focus on an idea you had, an inspiration, anything, that you can spend some time envisioning. I can almost certainly guarantee that if you do this, you'll find that the next time you sit down, you'll be able to write a song, or even a piece of a song, that turns into something, then something else, and iterates infinitely, if you allow it to. Tell me what you make happen in the comments!

So far this year I have written lyrics for about 25 songs. 1 more to go and then I'll choose my songs for my live show in March 2015. I'm enjoying planning for this goal of mine.
