I'm happy to say that I've written 44 songs this year! I will be finishing this year with 52 new songs in my catalog.
It's important to note that you do not HAVE to write a song every week to be a part of this course.
But, if you've been struggling with writing and releasing music, I cannot stress enough that you should ALLOW yourself to write music.
A lot of us spend entirely too much time telling ourselves we don't deserve something unless we meet other markers in our everyday; we can't play video games if we didn't work enough. We can't have pizza if we didn't run two miles. The list goes on.
It's great to set goals for yourself, and these can help to motivate you.
But, it's also important to tell yourself, "I'm allowed to sit down and spend some time making music. I doesn't have to be music that makes money. It doesn't have to have pop appeal. I'm making music because I LOVE it".
When you allow yourself to make music, you care for yourself, and you'll care for others in your life even more.
Your homework; give yourself 15 minutes to sit down and, even if you don't play an instrument, or create a new song, simply think about what you'd like to write, or focus on an idea you had, an inspiration, anything, that you can spend some time envisioning.
I can almost certainly guarantee that if you do this, you'll find that the next time you sit down, you'll be able to write a song, or even a piece of a song, that turns into something, then something else, and iterates infinitely, if you allow it to.
Tell me what you make happen in the comments!
