Custom hand carved sign
Here is a sign I’m hoping to finish today. I started painting it last night. I did this too cheap, only $125 but I needed money and it’s more practice and I get paid.

Handmade Sign
A guy contacted me via Facebook and asked me to carve him a live edge table top with his logo, I told him I wasn’t confident I could copy his logo and that I’d like to “practice” on a scrap piece of wood. I don’t think it was good enough because when I sent him this practice piece via mail, he backed out of the live edge table with his logo, said his wife didn’t want it but he would pay me for the “practice “ piece “ I think I still made like $300, I was still bummed out because he already committed to the table and SLAB, and at that time I was kind of counting on that money for our property taxes. So dudes ask your wife first ok?

I’m in Northern California.
I made this in high school.
I made this in high school wood shop about thirty years ago. Risner is my mother’s last name. My mother gave it to my nephew, who’s last name is also Risner, who hangs it at his home.

Another sign I donated and made for my communities local park. The original sign had broke and my wife “volunteered” me on Facebook. After I made this sign for “free” people wanted signs. One guy wanted a massive one for the Airport and I gave him an incredible price of $600 and he acted like it was too much. “ it should have been $2400” Then a local restaurant also asked me and I gave them a very low price and they ended up not using me and got vinyl hang up signs. They do not understand that it’s not cheap, from the sandpaper, varnish, water sealing, painting, and my time. Since then I’ve moved on to making tables.

I might plane a piece of wood to get it to the thickness I want, or I might do it to bring out the beauty and smoothness without much sanding work.
